Do you remember the days of playing console games with your friends on split-screen? Now you can relive those memories and create fantastic new ones using Minecraft split-screen. This option is only available for consoles (Nintendo Switch and PlayStation), but it is possible to create new memories by using Minecraft split-screen.

Your console or TV screen needs to support at least 720p resolution. PlayStation Vita doesn't support split-screen because it's QHD (1/4 of 1080p). WiiU doesn't support split-screen either because it only has 480p resolution. For qualifying devices, you'll be required to connect them to a TV screen using an HDMI or RGB component cable.

Find out more information here and details on how to split the screen in Minecraft.

Minecraft Splitscreen Requirements

As we have already mentioned, you will need an Xbox console and a TV with 720p resolution or higher. Also, you'll need to change the resolution of the video of your console to match the TV. This is a simple process to complete. You can find the display options in your console's settings. PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Switch typically automatically set the resolution when using HDMI However, previous manual adjustments could result in an issue that requires manual reconfiguration.

You can split the screen in Minecraft locally or online. A local split-screen can accommodate up to four players. If you have a huge TV screen, playing with your friends or family can be a lot of fun. Let's start with tips for local split-screens, and later the online split-screen will get explained as well.

How to Split-screen Minecraft Locally

Local split-screen is the term used to describe playing with a single console, not to be confused with LAN (local area network) play, where multiple devices get used. On any given device there are up to four players who can join the game. The instructions for playing Minecraft in split-screen mode are different slightly for each game console but the instructions below will cover them all.

Here's how to set up a 'local split-screen' in Minecraft:

1. Connect the console to the TV using an HDMI or component cable, then start Minecraft.

2. Select Create New if you want to start fresh, or load a previous game from the game list.

3. In the Multiplayer settings, move the slider of the Multiplayer Game to the off position.

4. Set the difficulty and other game options to your liking.

5. To begin the game, select Create or Play

6. Use another controller to activate the second console player and then click the appropriate button(s) to add them to Minecraft. For instance the PS4 utilizes the PS button to activate a user , and the button Options (pressed twice) to add the second player to Minecraft.

7. If you don't have one already, select the account for the other person. XBOX 360 and PS3 use the Minecraft Legacy Console Edition, that is why you must press Start on the second controller to get in the game, then it will prompt the user to sign in to the console.

How to Split-Screen Minecraft Online

You can play Minecraft on a split-screen screen with your friends locally, while also playing with other online players. In the case of online play, it is not on a split-screen, but two or more local players are given the split-screen when playing with those who are online. Here's how you can set up a split-screen for online play.

1. Log in to your console using your Xbox Live Gold account or PlayStation Plus account. Local accounts and players on XBOX 360 or XBOX One are not able to join XBOX 360 or XBOX One. The PS3 doesn't require PlayStation Plus, but the PS4 does.

2. For Minecraft Legacy editions, open your console and select Play Game, then Load or Create. Choose Create New or select one of your games to create Bedrock editions.

3. Adjust your game options to your preference and then launch your game. Before you begin the game, make sure Multiplayer Game is enabled in Bedrock.

4. Other "remote" players will need to accept your invitation (required) to join your hosted game. Split-screen capabilities is only available to up to four players per console, however they can also play online with other players.

Minecraft's an interesting, fun and imaginative game. Like all games, it's better when you play with your friends. You can now split the screen to play Minecraft similar to playing older console games with other players.

PC users might be feeling left out and feel a bit left out, which is normal. If you have a large screen is a shame that you're unable to split it or perform the same task on console. You can look online for third-party software to split screens, but they may not be reliable and are not officially licensed.
