His love for art began with his father's collection of books on nature photography, which introduced him to some of the greatest masters in this field. When he was young Joe took weekly trips to the zoo where he enjoyed observing animals up close. This gave him an opportunity to observe them up close for long periods of time without being noticed by them or other visitors around him! His interest in drawing led him eventually toward using watercolors as his main medium when he was thirteen years old.
