What is Express Entry Canada?

The Canadian government uses the online Express Entry system to manage and handle applications from skilled workers seeking permanent residence. For qualified professionals in Canada or abroad, Express Entry offers a route to permanent residency.  Express Entry will result in expedited processing timelines of six months or fewer for prospective skilled foreign workers.
Under these federal economic immigration programs, applications for permanent residency are handled via Express Entry:

  • The Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • The Federal Skilled Trades Program

To address local labour market needs, provinces and territories may also use their Provincial Nominee Programs to recruit applicants from Express Entry.
The Canada Express Entry Program was introduced on January 1, 2015, and it uses a points-based system to assess applications. The points system rates you and your spouse (if any) with a maximum score of 1200. As per the below mentioned factors:

  • Age
  • English/ French Language Proficiency
  • Work Experience
  • Highest Education
  • Additional Factors

How to be eligible for one of the Express Entry Program?
Canada Express Entry has three federal economic immigration program which are mentioned below along with their eligibility criteria:

1. Federal Skilled Workers Program: This program is for skilled workers who have work experience and 67 points out of 100 on the FSWP point grid these factors are based on age, work experience, education, language proficiency, and adaptability.

Eligibility criteria for Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP):

  • Applicant must have work experience in one of the NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, 3. This experience should be at least of one complete year paid job in the last 10 years.
  • Your work experience should be in the same job as the primary job you will mention in the application.
  • Applicant needs to have CLB 7 in their language proficiency test in one of the approved language tests also the test is valid for only 2 years from the date of results so applicant must ensure that they are providing the valid result.
  • If an applicant has obtained any certificate, degree or diploma from Canadian secondary institution or post-secondary institution then you need to provide the scanned copy of the same.
  • If the applicant has gained education from outside of Canada, then they need to provide their complete education credentials and an educational credential assessment report from a designated organization to show the equivalency of applicant’s education in regards with Canadian education standards.
  • Applicant needs to score 67 points out of 100 points based on Age, Work Experience, Language Proficiency, Education, Valid Job offer (if applicable), Adaptability.
    Applicant also needs to provide evidence of sufficient proof of funds to support their and their family’s stay in Canada.
  1. Federal Skilled Trades Program: This program is for the workers who have desired skills and qualification required for the Skilled Trade and wish to settle in Canada permanently.

Eligibility criteria for Foreign Skilled Trade Workers:

  • Applicant’s occupation must be listed in the Skill Trade List and applicant must hold at least 2 years of continuous work experience in that specific skilled trade in the last 5 years.
  • Applicant must have a job offer letter from a Canadian Employer for at least 1 year, or
  • Applicant can either have a certificate qualification issued by the Canadian authorities.
  • Applicant must have an overall CLB 4 where individually applicant must hold CLB 5 in Speaking and listening and CLB 4 in Reading and Writing.
  • Applicant must have enough proof of funds to support your stay and in case they are taking their family they need to provide enough funds for them as well i.e. if per individual requirement is $13,757 and upon every additional member an added funds of over $ 3000 per individual.

  1. Canadian Experience Class: This class is for applicants who already are in Canada on a work permit or have previously worked in Canada for somewhile and wish to settle permanently in Canada.

    Eligibility Criteria for Canadian Experience Class:

  • Applicant must hold at least 1 year of work experience in the last 3 years.
  • Applicant must hold the work experience by working in Canada under authorised TR status.
  • Applicant must hold continuous 1 year of full-time paid work experience in one of the NOC training, education, experience, and responsibilities (TEER) categories TEER 0, TEER 1, TEER 2, TEER 3.
  • Applicant must have a minimum of CLB 7 if applicant’s job is in TEER 0 and TEER 1 and CLB 5 if their job falls under TEER 2 and TEER 3.
