Before that, let us discuss what a TED talk really is.

What is a TED Talk? Why Do You Need to Cite a TED Talk

Don't worry TED talk is not just a lecture where your mind does not participate. The acronym TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design, summarizing its overarching presence in all domains that one can possibly think of. The valuable insights are generally delivered in under 18 minutes. The interactive nature of the speeches and the use of visual and auditory mediums captivate the audience- live and online.

TED talks have gained importance in academia because of the speeches based on thorough research. TED-Ed has given a platform for educators to discuss important topics while TEDMED is for healthcare and TED-Prize is for ideas worth spreading.

How to Cite a TED Talk

If you are given a TED talk to critique and cite for your assignments and are baffled, no need to worry when Word Solvo is here. APA is one of the most common citation styles used by various universities throughout the world for which we are discussing with reference to APA referencing style.

Structure:

Speaker(s). (Year, Month, Day). Title of the talk [Video]. TED Conferences. URL

Parenthetical Citation:

(Last Name of the Speaker(s), year, time stamp).

Narrative Citation:

Last Name of the Speaker(s) (year).

With these structures, you can cite a TED Talk with ease. This structure works when the TED Talk is cited using its website. In case of citing a Ted Talk from YouTube, cite the name of the speaker as “TED” or “TED Talk” (whatever is in the name of the uploader). Give credit to YouTube as the owner of the video and follow the rest of the previously given structure for an accurate citation.

Speaker(s): Write the last name(s) of the speaker and include the initial(s) of the speaker(s).

Year, Month, Day: Try to write the exact dates in this format. Provide the date in parentheses for APA style. In case the exact date is not available, write only the year of the publication.

Title of the Talk: Write the title of the talk using sentence case (first letter capital in every pepper noun). Italicize the title and put it in square brackets.

The Nature of the Medium: Since Ted Talks are in video form always, put [Video] in square brackets after the Title of the Talk.

Cite the Source: Indicate the source. Write Ted Conferences in case it is taken from the original website. In case the video has been cited from YouTube, write YouTube instead of Ted Conferences.

Attach the URL: Please attach the source URL from where the video can be accessed in future in case of any need.

Some Tips for Proper Citation

It is very essential to cite the source properly as it carries a few marks in every academic assignment. Moreover, proper citation is useful with respect to further research. A proper citation also shows respect to the speakers as well as preserving academic integrity.

Follow the structure in detail to avoid missing any component.

Try to write the exact date. If not found, state the year in a round bracket.

Follow where to put round brackets and where to put square brackets.

Cite the source (website or YouTube) carefully.

Please make sure the URL is working. Check once after ciiting the complete source.
