How to Set Up an Antenna Connection?

It has been more than a century since antenna communication was discovered and it still remains one of the most advanced forms of communication. Not only is antenna communication cheap, but it is also very reliable for even military and aerospace communication. In the early 90s, we also witnessed a wave of antenna TVs when each and every household used to have an antenna. Back then, setting up an antenna used to be easy and was basic knowledge.

Steps to Set Up an Antenna Yourself

While the proper way of setting an antenna hasn't changed, it is not as widely known as it was before. However, as global industries return to antennas, they will need to set up antennas for various purposes, such as for basic communication, weather forecasting, or receiving any radio transmissions.

Find the Direction of Transmission

If you have a multi-directional antenna, then you can skip this step. However, if you have a directional antenna, then its reception can deteriorate if the antenna is not positioned properly in the direction of transmission. Thus, it is important to identify the direction where you want your antenna to point.

Find a Position for Placement

Modern antennas can be placed both inside and outside of buildings. When placing inside, consider placing the antenna away from electrical equipment, which can interfere with the radio signal. Also, if you could place the antenna near the window then it will give you better reception. For outdoor antennas that are placed on a terrace or roof, consider investing in a good-quality mount.

Install the Mount

If you need a mount, then install the mount first with the help of provided bolts and screws. There are several types of antenna mounts you can buy in the market based on area of installation and base material. For example, you can find fiberglass mounts, mag mounts, ball mounts, pocket mounts and sometimes even use just brackets.

Mount the Antenna

Once the mount is ready, you can mount and fix your antenna. Before tightening the screws, check the orientation of the antenna to get the best signal. In some cases, you may need to install a tuner or amplifier to increase the reception range of the antenna so that it can receive a better signal.

Connect Cables

Once the antenna is installed, it is ready to be plugged into your hardware systems. For this, use a quality coaxial cable. If you want to use a single antenna for multiple devices, you will need a splitter that will allow you to connect the antenna with two or more systems.

Buying Reliable Antenna Equipment: SatComHQ

A major problem due to which antenna connections break is poor quality equipment. From the build quality of antennas to coaxial cables, you need reliable equipment to set up a long-lasting antenna connection. You can find such equipment at SatComHQ, a renowned satcom products supplier with a network of over 800 dealers and distributors. Moreover, SatComHQ provides its services on a global scale so that you can easily find its dealers. Along with antenna equipment, you can buy earth stations and maritime communications equipment on SatComHQ as well.
