Innovation and Technology
Hong Kong has a vibrant I&T ecosystem which is home to world-class universities, a thriving start-up scene and a vast array of research institutes. The city is a major hub for international R&D collaboration and has built a network of research centres and laboratories.

Achieving a robust innovation system has been a key focus for the Hong Kong Government. It has taken steps to revamp bureaucratic structures and develop innovative, growth-oriented enterprises. It also established a new Board on the stock exchange, the GEM, to facilitate equity financing of high-growth, innovative companies in the market.

The Government has increased investment in I&T development to boost economic growth and build an environment that nurtures innovation, entrepreneurship and innovation-led companies. It is committed to stepping up R&D, pooling together technology talent, investing in technological infrastructure, providing investment funding, and strengthening popular science education.

香港创科科技: The Translation of Research into Products and Services
As the flagship project of the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), InnoHK seeks to promote global research collaboration in Hong Kong, enabling local universities to translate their cutting-edge scientific discoveries into new products and services. InnoHK has set up two research clusters, Health@InnoHK and AIR@InnoHK, which are specialised in healthcare-related technologies and artificial intelligence and robotics technologies respectively.

Mainland-Hong Kong Joint Funding Scheme
The HKSAR Government signed an arrangement with the Mainland to enable universities and research institutions in Hong Kong to apply for and use Mainland government-funded R&D projects in Hong Kong. The Mainland-Hong Kong joint fund has helped support research and development in areas including life sciences, information technology and electrical and electronics, and other industries.
