Transformer bushing designs

Solid bushings typically have a straightforward design, with the conductor enclosed by a single piece of insulating material. The more complicated capacitance-graded bushings include a number of conductive layers incorporated into the insulating material. A gas chamber surrounds the conductor in gas-insulated bushings, providing insulation and preventing arcing. The insulating material in inductive bushings contains a coil of wire that generates a magnetic field that protects the conductor from the electric field.
