McAfee And Intel Showcase AI-Powered Deepfake Detection Technology On The AI PC At RSA

1 min read

McAfee, a leading global online protection company, has announced updates to its AI-powered deepfake detection technology at RSA San Francisco. The technology, which utilizes the NPU in Intel Core Ultra processor-based PCs, powers the McAfee Deepfake Detector (formerly known as 'Project Mockingbird'), helping users identify deepfake scams and misinformation.

Deepfake scams have become a growing concern, with 64% of people worldwide expressing increased worry compared to a year ago. The McAfee Deepfake Detector employs advanced AI detection techniques, including transformer-based Deep Neural Network models, to identify and alert users when the audio in a video is likely generated or manipulated by AI.

Through the collaboration with Intel, McAfee's AI models can perform inference locally on the Intel Core Ultra processor, eliminating the need to send private user information to the cloud. This results in a significant performance improvement of up to 300% on the same model, as well as enhanced battery life and privacy benefits.

Steve Grobman, McAfee's Chief Technology Officer, emphasized the importance of utilizing AI to combat AI in a world where deepfakes make it challenging to distinguish between real and fake. The partnership with Intel enables McAfee to offer consumers advanced and robust generative AI deepfake detection capabilities without compromising performance or privacy.
