Minecraft And NFTs

5 min read

Recently, we've received some feedback from our community members inquiring for clarification and more transparency regarding Mojang Studios and Minecraft's position on NFTs (non-fungible tokens) and blockchain.

While we are currently working on updating our Minecraft Usage Guidelines to offer more precise guidelines for new technologies, we want to take the chance to let you know that integrations of NFTs with Minecraft are generally not something we support or allow. Let's take a closer look!

What is an NFT?

An NFT is an exclusive digital token that cannot be edited and is often bought using cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. An NFT can be associated to any digital asset, such as an MPEG and a GIF. However, digital art like JPEGs is the most popular use case for an NFT. An NFT is the token that identifies the owner of the original digital file. However, as with any digital file, that file can be copied, moved or even deleted. Blockchain and NFTs are also associated with speculation, where prices are driven up rapidly and, as we've observed, they can fall quickly.

How will this affect me?

If you're a player or creator actively involved in trading, buying, or selling of trading of NFTs that make use of Minecraft (like skins or worlds) We strongly recommend you go through the information below. Otherwise, it's likely these changes won't impact you.

OUR POLICY ON NFTs and MINECRAFT

In our Minecraft Usage Guidelines, we explain how a server's owner can charge for access, and that all players should have access to the same features. We have these rules in place to ensure that Minecraft remains a community where everyone has access to the same content. NFTs are able to create scarcity and exclusion models that are not in line with our guidelines and the spirit and purpose of Minecraft.

To ensure that Minecraft players have an enjoyable and safe experience, blockchain technology is not allowed to be integrated inside our client and server applications, nor may Minecraft in-game content , such as skins, worlds persona items, and other mods be incorporated by blockchain technology to create a scarce digital asset. These are our reasons.

A few companies have recently introduced NFT implementations that are associated with Minecraft world files and skin packs. Other examples of how NFTs and blockchains could be integrated with Minecraft include creating Minecraft collectible NFTs that allow players to earn NFTs through the activities they perform on servers, or earn Minecraft NFT rewards for doing activities that are not part of the game.

Each of these uses for NFTs and other Blockchain technologies creates digital ownership that is built on scarcity or exclusion. This is not in accordance with Minecraft values of creative inclusion as well as playing together and sharing our resources. NFTs are not inclusive of all of our community and create a semblance of the haves and the have-nots. NFTs encourage profiteering and speculative pricing which we believe is not compatible with long-term happiness and success for our players.

We are also concerned about third-party NFTs not being reliable and could cost the customers who buy them. Some third-party NFT implementations are also entirely dependent on blockchain technology and could require an asset manager who may disappear without notice. NFTs were sold at artificially high or fraudulentlyinflated prices in some instances. We understand that the process of creating our game is intrinsically valuable, and we strive to create a market where those values are recognized.

To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and enjoyable experience, blockchain technologies are not allowed to be integrated into our Minecraft client and server applications, nor can be used to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, like worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods. We will also be monitoring the development of blockchain technology in the future to ensure that the above principles aren't violated and to determine if it could offer more secure gaming experiences or other practical inclusive gaming applications. just another wordpress site We do not have any plans to integrate blockchain technology into Minecraft at the moment.

We will be sharing more information with you soon. You can find our guidelines here, but in the meantime, we'll have more information to share with you. Stay tuned!
