Minecraft star Stampy Cat to present an RSE Christmas message

YouTube and Minecraft legend Stampy Cat is to deliver a lecture in front of 2,000 schoolchildren in Dundee.

Stampy, whose real name was Joseph Garrett, will deliver the Royal Society of Edinburgh's Christmas Lecture in Caird Hall on Monday.



His YouTube channel has more than 6.7 million subscribers.



The lecture will be broadcast exclusively on BBC iPlayer next Thursday.



BBC Scotland reported that Minecraft fans will get to see Stampy demonstrate how he creates his videos during a discussion with Chris van der Kuyl, Dundee games entrepreneur.



Stampy will share his story of making his Christmas special , and provide an insight into his life.



Mr van der Kuyl said Stampy was the "epitome of the 21st Century digital native" who could inspire viewers regardless of their age.



"Stampy is a source of inspiration for an entire generation of young people who clearly see that the future of careers will rely on a unique mix of talent, creativity, technical and design abilities that can be learned by anyone," he added.



The RSE lecture will be shown as part of the BBC Make it Digital initiative to promote digital creativity among young people.
