Check out the music videos! The metaverse is coming to you.

Have you ever been to a concert in the metaverse before? It's a good idea, judging by the new category that's been added to the MTV Video Music Awards. Welcome to my blog The VMAs this year will hand out an award to a Moon Person for "Best Metaverse Performance," but there's no word on whether the award will be handed out online or in person.

The nominees are Ariana Grande and BLACKPINK, BTS Charli XCX Justin Bieber and Twenty One Pilots. Yes, your favorites have been performing in the metaverse.

Each artist put their own twist on their metaverse show. Ariana Grande performed an space-themed performance in Fortnite, while BLACKPINK's hyperrealistic avatars brought their "pretty savage" essence to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUGB) Mobile. BTS have been singing their chart-toppers in English "Butter" and "Permission to Dance" on an arena in Minecraft where the boys' oversized avatars tried to recreate their signature dance moves. While, Charli XCX and Twenty One Pilots both attended Roblox performances. Charli XCX's performance was the result of her collaboration with Samsung. Justin Bieber also put on the show at Wave the virtual entertainment platform.

They're not the only performers in the metaverse. During the pandemic, online and metaverse-themed concerts were extremely popular. Virtual and online concerts will remain popular, particularly as the metaverse is integrated into our daily lives.

The fact that it was acknowledged at the VMAs suggests that metaverse performances could become a major part of the music industry. Only time will tell.
