Prof. Paul YF Lee is a British orthopedic surgeon specializing in regenerative medicine and contributing significantly to the medical industry through his expertise. He is a pioneer in the field of regenerative medicine and is widely regarded as a leading authority in the field of joint and cartilage preservation surgery. His academic endeavors include positions as a visiting professor of sports medicine at the University of Lincoln’s School of Sport and Exercise Science, College of Social Science, and as a consultant orthopedic surgeon for the National Health Service. He also possesses a doctorate in medical cell engineering and surgical fellowships in regenerative medicine to complement his master’s degree in sports medicine.

Prof. Lee obtained his CCT through the all-Wales rotation and is listed on the UK General Medical Council’s specialist register. He was a Robin Ling Fellow at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopedic Hospital, where he studied hip replacement and regeneration surgery with Professor James B. Richardson.

Prof. Lee has an extensive career as a surgery specialist. He was the president and chairman of WelshBone from 2013 to 2018. He also participated in the Q community, a health foundation that serves as a hub for improvement communities dedicated to advancing health and care through exchanging information, developing expertise, and coordinating efforts. Since 2017, Prof. Lee has served the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) as a trauma and orthopedics consultant surgeon. From 2018 to 2021, he also served as the trust’s research director. In 2018, Prof. Lee began working with the late Mr. Gilmore’s team at the Gilmore Groin Clinic on London’s Harley Street to treat athletes suffering from groin injuries. He is a consultant on a variety of topics, including sports injuries, knee issues, regeneration, and orthopedics, and he is widely known for introducing a regeneration approach to sports injuries as part of the London Sports & Injuries clinic in Harley Street, where he served and treated high-profile clients. formed a strategic relationship with the Phoenix Hospital group to better serve his clients in orthopedic regeneration and sports surgery in 2019. He put a substantial amount of money into setting up the infrastructure and developing processes allowing him to send patients home from the hospital just 24 hours after undergoing surgery like hip and knee replacement without discomfort.

Prof. Lee serves as the senior medical advisor at ConsentPlus- a nonprofit organization to improve the informed consent process for patients receiving hip and knee surgeries in England and Wales. Since joining the London Cartilage Clinic in January 2023, Prof. Lee has served as a regeneration surgeon.

Philanthropism 
Besides having an exceptional and enormous career in orthopedic surgery, Prof. Lee participates in a heap of philanthropic activities. In 2006, Prof. Lee founded Medtaste to introduce high school students to real-life medicine, enabling them to decide whether to pursue a medical career. More than 20 Medtaste events have been held over the past decade to encourage young people to pursue careers in medicine, with the combined efforts of Cardiff Medical School, Swansea Medical School, junior physicians, consultants, and medical students.

Contributions as an Author 
Besides having a highly successful career in orthopedic surgery, Prof. Lee is also a prolific author. In 2016, he authored Sports Muscle Injuries and Actovegin: Basics, Concepts, and Future of Actovegin. The book provides insight into the scientific rationale and novel theories behind Actovegin therapy. It mainly benefits sports and injury professionals, including high-performance athletes, coaches, physiotherapists, sports doctors, and anyone with muscle injuries. The book’s highlight is its quality content, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
Moreover, Prof. Lee has published numerous research journals, too. To honor Prof. Lee’s breakthrough talent, several organizations have presented him with prestigious awards for his par excellence contribution to the medical field. In 2021, Prof. Lee received the Lincolnshire Council Grant Award. Later, in 2022, he was awarded the Innovate UK Smart Grant.
