Reducing Discomfort During Invisalign

3 min read

There are many orthodontic treatments available and out of all of them, Invisalign in Gresham is the most popular one. The treatment with clear aligner trays has made it possible for everyone to undergo an orthodontic treatment hassle-free. At least, people need not stuff their mouth with numerous metal pieces and carry them for a long time.

When patients come to us for Invisalign, they have ample of questions to ask. One strong question they come up with normally is – whether Invisalign in painful. Let us see the details in the below section.

Is Invisalign painful?
If you compare the pain and discomfort in Invisalign with that of braces, Invisalign is not painful at all. However, Invisalign is also moving and shifting your teeth so you will feel some discomfort and experience soreness in your mouth.

You can think of it like a traditional orthodontic treatment. When braces are fit into your mouth for the first time, you start feeling uncomfortable and the same discomfort you will feel again when the braces are tightened. While the aligner trays offered during Invisalign are not like brackets and wires of braces, they will cause discomfort up to a certain extent as it is the nature of any kind of orthodontic treatment.

How long the discomfort last?
There is no standard answer to this question but you will feel discomfort every time you get a new set of aligners. The discomfort shall last for a few days of wearing the aligners and you will get used to it. As the treatment furthers, you will find your teeth accustomed to the new aligners eventually, and the soreness shall subside.

Wearing aligners as much as possible
One of the best ways to get over the soreness is to make sure that you are wearing your aligner trays at least 22 hours a day. While you are allowed to remove the trays during meals and cleaning, you must ensure that for the rest of the day and night, you have your aligner put on. The more you follow the instructions of your orthodontist, the better are the chances to get the straight teeth of your dreams.

Reducing the discomfort
When it about dealing with soreness in the mouth, the traditional methods always work. You should suck on ice cubes or drink cold water as the coolness will subside your discomfort. You can do this while you have your aligners put on and it will soothe your sore teeth. Sucking on small cubes is fine but just be sure that you do not end up biting the ice cubes as the hardness of the ice cube can break your aligners.
