Repairing Electric Toothbrush Charger?

Repairing Electric Toothbrush Charger?
2 min read

My Braun electric toothbrush charger stop working after a while so I buy another one. I currently have four toothbrushes that work, but only one charger.

There are many guides for toothbrushes, but not for chargers. I was wondering if there is a simple way to check for a defective charger.

To charge the toothbrush's battery, the charger uses wireless charging. This same principle can be used for some mobile phones (Qi charging).

Use a multimeter to coil some wire. Place it on top of the charging charger. The coil should measure the a.c. voltage. You should be able to detect an a.c. current across the coil.

The charger plugs directly into an AC mains power supply so it is likely that there is a fuse inside the charger. This may be the first thing you check.

Accessing the charger without causing damage to the case and components is the hardest part of repairing it.

The charger appears to be in a molded plastic bag with no seams, as shown by the images. It is likely that it has been made waterproof to allow for a wet toothbrush to be used on it.

You can place a sharp, wide-bladed tool such as a knife or a razor bladed tool on the seam. Use a 1 1/2" sharpened paint scraper to clean the seam. Give it a quick tap with a hammer. This will usually cause a small crack in the plastic welded case at the seam.

If you find no seam, then you will need to cut the case open without damaging any internal components. Next, check the circuit board components.

You may be able repair them if you can do it without too much damage. However, they will need to be sealed and waterproofed again to be used again in their usual location.

You might be able to try out the chargers that are still in good condition.

You might consider this a possibility. You'll be a blessing to others in the future. This is how it works on ifixit .
