The film No Way Up is a unique blend of disaster movie, survival tale, and shark attack thriller. A group of survivors from an airplane crash find themselves trapped in an airlock at the edge of an underwater ravine, surrounded by hungry sharks. The passengers, including a governor’s daughter, her bodyguard, a 10-year-old girl with her grandparents, and others, must find a way to escape without becoming shark food. Not everyone survives until the end of the film.
Renowned critic Pauline Kael once said, “Movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash, we have very little reason to be interested in them.” No Way Up falls into the category of great trash, or rather, a great B-movie. It offers gory shark kills, absurd plot twists, and moments of humor that keep the tone light.
The film excels in combining various forms of danger and escalating them. The plane teeters closer to the ravine's edge, sharks infiltrate the aircraft, and the characters face the constant threat of the plane collapsing. The expert divers sent to rescue them add another layer of suspense.
Writer Andy Mayson's imaginative storytelling and director Claudio Fäh's tight pacing make No Way Up an entertaining watch. Watch this movie on Flixtor without paying any subscription fee.
