Steps To Take During Your Healing Journey

Life is never a straight road.

While some paths may guide you to green pastures and prosperous terrain, others may send you down a ditch. Self-loathing leaves scratches on your skin, which, if left untreated, can turn into scars that will stick with you forever. Every time you look in the mirror, the scars remind you of the turmoil you went through. You made it out alive, but the damage has been done.

Life slowly starts to seem meaningless; just a side effect of when love runs out.

But is there salvation? Is a comeback possible?

Let’s give ourselves a try, rip off the band-aid, and learn of the steps to take during your healing journey.

Being Open To Learning Yourself

Humans tend to close up when facing adversity. Notice that when you’re nervous around someone, your body begins to focus on your center. Your shoulders point inward, and your muscles tense. But even a clam shell hides a pearl within. It’s okay to build your walls up. Fool you once, shame on them; fool you twice, shame on you, right? You need to be unafraid of the idea of opening up.

But the truth is, maybe subconsciously, you are also building your walls against yourself. To heal, you should be open to fixing things and self-learning. Sometimes we get so comfortable with our predicaments that we consider moving on a burden.

If a problem hinders your truth, the first step to healing is acknowledgment and being open to the solution.

Take Life Slowly… EXHALE

Yes, the destination might seem very far. Healing doesn’t come easy. But the truth is, if you stare at the destination from the other side of the road, the destination will naturally seem far. So, what do we do?

Look down. Look at your feet, and begin walking. Focus on the steps rather than the destination. If you think of how far you must walk, making the first step will seem scary and burdensome. So focus on the walk instead. Focus on the path where and the fact that it isn’t a race; you can slow down and savor each step.

Don’t think of healing as a goal you have to achieve, but a peaceful walk, with every little step leading to catharsis.

Allow Yourself to be Mistaken and Try Again

You’ve already been through so much. The last thing you need is for you to be harsh on yourself. In the rocky terrain, you are bound to fall. You are bound to scrape your knee and get a few scars along the way.

But don’t be disheartened when you catch yourself self-loathing again. Don’t be hard on yourself when it gets too much.

So, when you catch yourself self-sabotaging, take a deep breath, perhaps talk to a friend or spend your energy doing something that you really like.

Reward Your Achievements

Let’s say you stuck to your regiment. Whether it is working out on schedule, taking that piano lesson you had been stalling on, or maybe you went through the day without negative thoughts, don’t forget to reward yourself!

Maybe buy yourself a little cake, a dress you really like. Indulge in self-love because you are worth it. So be proud of yourself.

It’s all about making the journey worth walking for yourself.

Surround Yourself With Positivity

The only way you will be able to make the journey feel shorter is if you surround yourself with people and habits that actually make you happy. When you’ve been through turmoil, you lose faith in the good that this world has to offer. You need a voice to tell you that it is okay.

Surround yourself with people who’ve had the same experiences as yours.
