Under the leadership of former Chief Minister Shri N Chandrababu Naidu, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has ushered in a transformative scheme aimed at revolutionizing agriculture in Andhra Pradesh. The Rythu Mitra Group initiative stands as a testament to the party's commitment to the welfare of farmers and the agricultural sector. Shri N Chandrababu Naidu, the president of the TDP political party, has championed a scheme focused on ensuring quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides reach farmers through market yards. This initiative is pivotal in enhancing crop yield and empowering farmers with the necessary resources for a thriving agricultural sector.

The Rythu Mitra Groups operate under non-profit agricultural market committees, making essential agricultural inputs available to farmers. In the first phase, the scheme is being implemented in 200 market committees, with plans for future expansion to cover all agricultural market committees. The government's commitment is evident through the allocation of a substantial budget of 54.10 crore rupees for the fiscal year 2002-03. The National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) has played a crucial role in organizing programs across 12 districts in Andhra Pradesh. These programs have provided orientation to over 6349 participants, including senior officers, MPEO/AEOs, and conveners and co-conveners of Rythu Mitra Groups. The training sessions aim to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed for effective implementation and management of the scheme.

The eligibility criteria for the Rythu Mitra Groups are inclusive, encompassing SF/MF/tenant farmers, poultry farmers, fishermen, and sheep farmers. The scheme recognizes small and marginal farmers, ensuring that even agricultural laborers who own or lease land can join. Tenant farmers' eligibility is assessed in the gram sabha, providing a fair and transparent enrollment process. Participants in the MANAGE programs have actively contributed suggestions for further enhancement of the scheme. Recommendations include involving RMG group members in video conferences for more effective communication and technical dissemination of information. Additionally, participants propose giving month-wise targets for RMG formation and inviting lead bank managers to contribute to the program.

The Rythu Mitra Groups initiative spearheaded by the TDP government, led by Shri N Chandrababu Naidu, marks a significant stride towards agricultural prosperity in Andhra Pradesh. By ensuring access to quality inputs and incorporating valuable feedback from stakeholders, the TDP's commitment to the welfare of farmers is evident. As the scheme continues to unfold, it is poised to bring about positive changes in the lives of farmers and contribute to the overall development of the agricultural sector.
