Is dream interpretation science or illusion?!

God Almighty says in the Holy Qur’an from Surat Al-Anfal, addressing His Noble Messenger, peace and blessings of God be upon him: (( When God showed them to you in your dream a little. And if He had shown them a lot, you would have failed and disputed over the matter. But God has delivered. He is All-Knowing of what is within the breasts. ) As for the expression of visions in Islam, it is a right that cannot be denied, and God Almighty granted the ability to express them to His Prophet Joseph, peace be upon him, as stated in the Holy Qur’an in Surat Yusuf from verse 6 ((And thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of hadiths and complete His blessings. upon you and upon the family of Jacob ) ) . God Almighty inspired his Prophet Abraham to slaughter his son Ishmael, peace be upon them both, through a dream: Whatever you are commanded, you will find me, God willing, among those who are patient.)) As-Saffat 102. And he knew On the authority of the Messenger Muhammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him, that he used to trust visions and express them, and he saw that he was entering the Sacred House of God in safety with his companions, as stated in the Holy Qur’an from the form of conquest, verse 27 ((Allah has certainly confirmed the vision in truth to His Messenger, so that you will enter the Sacred Mosque, God willing, safe and secure.) Keep your heads straight and do not be afraid . So He knew what you did not know, so He made apart from that a conquest soon .) Based on the above, the vision in a dream from the point of view of the Islamic religion is a fact that cannot be disputed, and God has designated among His servants the prophets and the righteous to be able to decode dreams.  تفسير الاحلام

How do I learn to interpret dreams?

Is dream interpretation a gift or an acquired science? Controversy rages between those who believe in the interpretation of visions and others who are skeptical about the interpretation of dreams. We have settled that the Islamic religion mentions visions as a revelation and a sign from God Almighty that He gives to whomever He wants. There is no room for denying the reality of visions for those who believe in Islam and its Book. As for the deeper controversy, it is among believing Muslims themselves about whether dream interpretation is a gift from God, or is it a science that can be acquired through study and research and can be taught, or is it both?!

The first opinion: Interpretation is a special gift

Supporters of this opinion say that interpreting dreams is a gift from God Almighty that is reserved for whomsoever He wishes, among the prophets, messengers, righteous people, and saints. There is no way for anyone to whom God has not given this ability to acquire it through education, research, or practice, as understanding the signal sent by a dream is a granted ability that is not acquired. Among the supporters of this opinion is His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Ali Jumah and other sheikhs and scholars, and they support their statement by saying that the Noble Messenger would sometimes refrain from interpreting a dream because he had a revelation from God, and the interpretation of a single dream may differ from one person to another, and God knows best. Supporters of this doctrine, including distinguished scholars and sheikhs, consider relying on dream interpretation books to be incorrect, as there is no absolute, fixed recipe for interpreting dreams.

The second opinion: Interpreting dreams is a science that has its own standards and methods

As for the second opinion, it says that the science of dream interpretation, like other sciences, can be learned through books, study, and research. They do not deny the gift of interpreting dreams, but for them it is like any other gift. Just as medicine is taught in universities, one student is distinguished from another by a special talent, so is the matter. In the interpretation of dreams. This opinion is believed by everyone who deals with the dream interpretation books of Ibn Sirin, Al-Qadri, Ibn Shaheen, Al-Nabulsi and other major interpreters, and they believe that these interpretations are mostly correct and must be taken as the main criterion to be projected onto the condition of the dreamer and the details of the dream.

Third opinion: Interpreting dreams is a talent that must be cultivated

This opinion supports the first opinion that interpreting dreams is a special gift that God gives to whomsoever He wishes of His servants, and it is not possible for a person to acquire it otherwise. However, the interpreter whom God has guided to this gift must be knowledgeable about matters of religion, memorize the Holy Qur’an, and be aware of its meanings and the interpretation of its verses, for otherwise it is not possible. To be an interpreter, and he may be so, of course, so that God will choose him with this quality, and God knows best. Among the supporters of this saying is Sheikh Muhammad bin Saleh Al-Uthaymeen.
