Who are you?

You may come up with a straightforward answer: tell your name, gender, and occupation. But let's take this a step further: who are you?

Who are you when you're in class, watching the cool kids having fun while you're trying to laugh along with their jokes just to fit in? Who are you when you're losing sleep working rigorously to please your boss for a promotion? Who are you when you look in the mirror daily, battered and bruised from life?

Let's embark on a journey of self-reflection to prove ourselves.

Proving Ourselves To Others

We all wish to be a part of a tribe, seeking the approval of others. This notion is rooted in our genetic code. So what do you do? You try your best to prove yourself that you are, indeed, worthy of fitting in. Although, there is nothing inherently wrong with this notion. Proving yourself in front of others earns you respect and gives you the power to succeed. The flaw is in the approach.

You're Your Own Competition

How often have you worked tirelessly competing for something, only to stop mid-way, looking at the competition and think, "There is no way I can win this." How often have you beat yourself up for not being gifted enough to succeed? You see, in the pursuit to prove ourselves in the eyes of others, we dig up a pit of self-loathing.

The only person that you need to prove anything to is yourself.

When you realize that you are your own competition, you immediately feel the difference. No longer do you compare yourself to others. You are filled with a newfound respect for yourself, for you are constantly pursuing to overcome your previous milestones.

You're grounded in a raging storm, only determined to move forward. As a result, you don't waver and get distracted. You are dialed in, overcoming and winning. People recognize you for the warrior you are. They begin to count on you and give you the respect you deserve.

So, shift your focus and stop comparing yourself to others. Realize your talents, for you are destined for nothing less than greatness.

Author Miranda Storm's enigmatic book, Blue Out, encapsulates the plight of proving oneself through the eyes of the protagonist, sixteen-year-old Naya DeLora, in a world ravaged by floods, storms, and dictatorships. Naya battles to prove herself in the sinister Aqua8 military unit while navigating intense school swim races between rival teams: The Barracudas, the Seals, the Rays, and the Sharks. Blue Out is a treat for action-adventure fiction lovers.

Will Naya use her swimming talents to prove her greatness? Only one way to find out.

Blue Out is now available on Amazon.
