The Top 4 PS5 Soccer Games

The Top 4 PS5 Soccer Games

There is nothing in life that can compare to the feeling of scoring the game-winning goal in the Champions League final or being named the league's leading goalscorer. The unfortunate reality is that not all of us are capable of playing soccer at the level required to compete at the highest levels.

But fortunately for our generation, all is not lost, thanks to some of the greatest game labels on the planet, who are making use of some of the coolest technology that is available today, in order to bring us truly awesome soccer games that keep us up past our bedtimes.

If you are a soccer fanatic like us and enjoy watching our favorite teams compete for glory both in person and on television, then any additional opportunity to immerse ourselves in the world of soccer is always an enjoyable diversion. We play soccer in our neighborhood park.

And thanks to the rapid development of gaming technology, especially on the PS5, playing soccer video games has reached new heights, where it is almost as realistic as the real thing, and there isn't even a pulled hamstring in sight!

Let's take a look at the four best soccer games available for the PlayStation 5, and be sure to keep an eye out for the game that comes in at number two on our list. It adds a hilarious new twist to the genre, and it's the kind of game that, when played with friends, will have you coming back for more just to see what happens next.

4. eFootball in the year 2022 (PES)

The release of eFootball 2022 has not been as successful as the developers of the game, Konami, had hoped it would be. The game is plagued with numerous bugs, and its player base is in an uproar. Taking this into consideration, you might be wondering how eFootball managed to find its way onto our list.

The most recent installment of the immensely popular Pro Evolution Soccer series is currently available to play for free in its most fundamental form. This is sure to appeal to soccer fans' sense of nostalgia, as who among them hasn't stayed up all night to play Pro-Evo in the past?

And secondly, there aren't a million different soccer games that you can play, so your options are limited. Given eFootballs' more illustrious history, it is deserving of its spot on our list because of its rich history.

It is telling that penalty kick online has been beaten in our list by a game that hasn't been released yet, and a game that looks like Sensible Soccer on steroids, but fans of the game will still hold out hope that patches due will fix the underlying issues and turn around the game's fortunes. eFootball has been beaten in our list by a game that looks like Sensible Soccer on steroids.

Despite the fact that Konami has not yet delivered much of what it promised for eFootball, the game could be given new life with the help of an improved graphics engine and the resolution of gameplay issues such as sharp kicks, charging commands, and collision problems.

We used to have a lot of affection for Pro-Evo, and because of this, we are willing to give Konami the benefit of the doubt for the time being. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they will be able to refresh and reinvigorate the tournament, but if the worst comes to pass, they will have to begin from scratch.

3. UFL

We know it's a little bit cheeky of us to have UFL on our list right now, but with the game's release date looming so close in 2022, we had no choice but to give some page time to what appears to be a really well-polished and exciting soccer game.

A game that has been in development for the past six years, recently released gameplay footage will have you drooling in anticipation of the opportunity to finally get your hands on a game that is widely predicted to give FIFA 22 a run for its money.

The graphics, the game engine, and the modeling all look like they were made by professionals, and the gameplay has a very clear Pro Evolution vibe to it. Trading cards and the other typical memorabilia, as well as a copy of this game, look like they've been given a fresh coat of paint, and we can't wait to get our hands on them.

The game features accurate player and club names, club management that players can sink their teeth into, and the opportunity to work their way up an online leaderboard, all of which should motivate players to compete with one another for dominance.

It's possible that the UFL's motto, "Fair to Play," is just a dig at the FIFA franchise, but as of right now, we have a very positive outlook on how good the UFL actually looks.

2. Guts 'N Goals

Guts 'N Goals represents a radical departure from the traditional soccer video game format in that, in order to control the ball in the game, you will not only use your feet but also your hands.

It's a little bit like Lemmings meets Sensible Soccer, where your players' special moves determine how you go about winning the game, and Guts 'N Goals is a hilarious, fast-paced alternative to your typical soccer game. Fouling is the way to go here, and it's a little bit like fouling is the way to go here.

This manically quirky arcade-style game is great for solo play but really comes into its own when played cooperatively with friends. The game substitutes paintballs for soccer balls and allows players to use baseball bats and lightsabers as weapons.

Guts 'N Goals is not your typical 11 vs. 11 let's win the league setup, but instead focuses on a 3 vs. 3 deathmatch. The game features enough characters, and enough special abilities for the characters, to keep you entertained and coming back for more.

The game engine is very polished, the top-down pixellated view seems to work really well, the colors are bright, and the music has a fast tempo, which is convenient given how hectic the gameplay is.

Don't let the oddness of the game put you off; if you give it a shot with some friends, you'll find that you absolutely adore it.

The Pros for the Verdict

1. FIFA 22

The illustrious FIFA franchise from EA Sports remains unchallenged atop our list once again and is widely regarded as the best soccer video game ever made.

FIFA has been the go-to game for soccer fans for a long time, and with good reason. The refined gameplay and global fanbase firmly establish this EA Sports stalwart as the game to beat.

The gameplay is noticeably more difficult, which has the advantage of making the longevity of the game even more appealing, and it also gives the game a more realistic feeling to it. The days of beating Barcelona 22-0 are long gone, and now you have to put in some effort if you want to come out on top here.

The thrill of opening packs, especially when you get a walkout card or a player you really care about, can become addictive and have almost become a separate activity from the actual act of playing games themselves.

You need only look on YouTube to find tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of players recording themselves opening packs to understand the significance of this aspect of the game. And even though it might not be absolutely necessary for some players, the additional layer of depth that packs bring to the game is a huge reason why it can be played over and over again.

FIFA Esports is currently attracting fans in droves, players competing against each other in tournaments, and even being gambled on in countries such as the UK, where gamblers can bet on live FIFA games on sports gambling sites. EA Sports has built a game that is so complete that FIFA Esports is now attracting fans in droves.

And while that might not be your cup of tea, it does lend credence to the notion that FIFA is highly unlikely to ever lose its crown as the premier soccer video game.

If we don't see the release of UFL taking the gaming world by storm or eFootball having a miraculous turnaround, it's hard not to see the future for EA and FIFA being very bright indeed. The expected release date for FIFA 23 is around October of 2022.
