There will be an Appeals Process

The new system lets players send chat messages to multiplayer games However, the community is concerned about the ramifications.

A Mojang community manager has stated that Mojang will not be reversing the implementation of a controversial new player reporting feature. He also demanded an end to harassment of Mojang employees.

MojangMeesh posted on Reddit to clarify that although Mojang Studios values feedback from its players, it doesn't mean that it will change the design principles Mojang Studios follows-this includes the forthcoming report system. They asked players to stop "following Mojang employees here on Reddit" and to stop harassing them in unrelated threads. At the time of writing, the post had received almost 2000 downvotes.

Minecraft players have been furious over the new player reporting system since it was announced a month ago but it was finally implemented in yesterday's 1.19.1 update. It allows players on private and Mojang-hosted multiplayer servers to report inappropriate messages in chat for review by Mojang investigators, potentially resulting in bans and suspensions for players who violate Minecraft's guidelines for community members, even on self-hosted servers. Many are concerned that the system will result in player bans for messages taken out of context, and that it gives Microsoft too much power to control the content of conversations on its platform.

Although some players might be acting in a negative manner about it, I don't believe their argument is unfounded. It's difficult to imagine the world in which this system doesn't ban someone because a joke between friends was misinterpreted. Although there may be appeals, it is also evident that there are numerous misconceptions regarding the system's operation. Scroll through any thread on the matter and it won't take long before you see people complaining about having their private server's chat 'monitored by Microsoft, or worried that they'll be banned from the site for cursing. Neither of these is possible, according to Mojang's FAQ regarding the reporting system.

Mojang is in a a jam with this one. A thread from Stuart Duncan-who manages an autism-friendly Minecraft server for children with autism-reveals how much awful stuff Minecraft is host to on a regular basis. Duncan highlights studies and reports from the ADL and the BBC and other sources that tell stories of racists and predators using Minecraft in a way that is abominable. It seems important to offer tools to combat this behaviour. While it's true that 'think of the child" scare stories are used to justify repressive policies in real life, a tool that lets users report dodgy chat messages in Minecraft isn't the thin end of a draconian wedge.

If you say "no one has asked" for this, "the entire community hates this" or "no-one wants this", please stop trying to be an advocate for everyone. "If you're worried about the possibility of exploits, that's great. You can too. I know it's not perfect. But real people can be saved by this.Always keep in mind that.July 27, 2022

In other Minecraft news, Mojang recently declared that the game wouldn't be featuring NFTs since they don't align with the "values of creative inclusion". The move at least seemed to garner an enthusiastic response from the player base, although there's been no confirmation yet as to what the AI they've trained to play Minecraft thinks about it.

One of Josh's first memories is of playing Quake 2 on the family computer. He was too young to be doing that and he's been game-focused ever since. His writing has been published in Vice and Fanbyte, as well as the Financial Times. He's played almost everything, and has written far too much on everything from visual novels to Assassin's creed. His greatest passions are CRPGs, immersive simulations, and games that's ambition is greater than its budget. He believes that you're too harsh about Deus Ex.
