Trying to get pregnant? But cannot conceive?
Believe me, you don't need instructions, but you might need some assistance determining the ideal time to have sex in order to become pregnant. However, the question is, how will one know?
It's easy: try it on the days you ovulate. Because sperm can stay alive for three to six days before fertilization, the best time to "get pregnant" can be anywhere from a few days before ovulation to about a day after the egg is released. This is because the egg is only good for 12 to 24 hours inside the body. And if you are unable to know when you ovulate, try using an ovulation calculator.
Determine When You're Fertile
The ovulation calendar can tell you when you will ovulate based on the date of your last period and the average number of days between your periods. For the purpose of figuring out when you're most likely to ovulate, first take 14 days off from when you're most likely to get your next period. Then, this ovulation calculator figures out your fertile window, which can be up to one day after ovulation and up to a few days before. Just remember that menstrual cycles can be different from one woman to the next and from one month to the next, so this is not an exact science (typical cycle length is anywhere between 21 and 35 days). Also, if your periods aren't regular, it might be harder to figure out without a calculator to check when you will be fertile.
Ovulation Signs
Are you unsure of how to recognise your ovulation? Pay attention to these ovulation indicators:
- When ovulation has occurred, your basal body temperature decreases slightly before rising once more.
- Your cervical mucus thins and clears, becoming more slippery and resembling egg whites in consistency.
- Your cervix stretches out and softens.
- In your lower abdomen, you might experience a slight twinge of pain or light cramps.
- Your desire for sex might grow.
- Some light spotting might be apparent.
- Your vagina or vulva might seem swollen.
Expert Advice For Pregnancy
Increase your chances of becoming pregnant more quickly. Try the following advice:
- Take your pregnancy supplement
You should start taking the prenatal vitamin at least a month before you plan to conceive. Women who used fertility treatments and took prenatal vitamins had a higher chance of becoming pregnant than those who used fertility treatments alone. It's not a guarantee, but it's worth a shot if you want to try to conceive more quickly.
- Schedule Intercourse
Have sex a few days before ovulation, which usually happens halfway through your cycle, and get to know the signs of ovulation so you can spot them (so on day 14 of a 28-day cycle). It would be best to have sex on the day you ovulate, but it can be hard to figure out when that is.
- Eliminate Bad Habits
If you are a smoker, please quit now. Smoking has been shown to decrease fertility and make pregnancy more challenging. Stopping alcohol consumption and limiting caffeine intake to no more than 200 milligrams per day are also helpful pregnancy preparation measures.
