Warp-Spasms: What To Do When Your Greatest Enemy Is Yourself?

You’ll often face obstacles that keep you from reaching your destination. These obstacles will manifest in the form of people wanting to see you fail. It’s inevitable to face these obstacles in your life. So, you fight the good fight. You make sure you give it your all to deal with them.

But what will you do when you are your own greatest threat and a threat to those around you?

Let’s discuss this.

The man in the mirror.

An enemy is anyone who wishes you ill. But our physical and mental well-being is in our own hands. How often have you found yourself making up scenarios in your head, causing you to spiral through self-sabotage? How often do you think you’re not good enough when you look at someone who seemingly is?

How often do we give in to our demons just to get by?

You know the saying, “Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.”

What if your enemy is yourself?

In author Dan O’Mahoney’s book, The Fifth Cycle: A New Hero is Forged, our protagonist, Colin Caulfield, inherits the powers of Cú Chulainn, Ireland’s greatest hero.

Although Colin finds an enemy in a dark force that attempts to stop him from reinstating the Irish gods to their seat of power, his greatest enemy proves to be himself. He experiences something called warp spasms, which cause him to go berserk and become a threat to whoever is in his path.

We all have our versions of warp spasms that cause problems for us and our loved ones. Is it not a metaphor for self-loathing, anger, and jealousy? All are self-inflicted and hinder you from succeeding.

But it isn’t impossible to harness.

Fight!

The good news is there is no enemy you cannot overcome – even yourself. With self-belief and enough perseverance, you can break free from the shackles you keep yourself captive with.

Want to know how? Here’s how.

  1. Know yourself:

You cannot fix a problem within yourself without knowing your strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, you cannot overcome your battles without knowing your triggers. Assess what angers you, what causes you sadness, and what keeps you from achieving your goals.

  1. Keep friends close:

Keep positive energy around you. Friends and family know your tendencies to go in a negative headspace. Being alone can become very daunting at this time, but a good-wholesome conversation can do wonders.

  1.  Belief:

You need to be rigid in the belief that there is nothing you can’t overcome. You need to fight and survive for your purpose. Undying belief in yourself will make you unstoppable.
