Mental health is incredibly important for humans. It is the foundation for our emotions, thoughts, communications, learning, and self-esteem. It is also key to maintaining healthy relationships, personal well-being and contributing to society. 

Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of! It is a medical condition just like any other physical ailment. And similar to other illnesses, mental health conditions are treatable. Science is constantly expanding our understanding of how the human brain works and there are available treatments to help those suffering from mental illness. Mental illness is something that can affect anyone. It's not picky about who it chooses and can show up at any age. However, the most mental illness starts to present themselves around age 24.

Mental illness does not discriminate against age, gender, income, social status, race/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, or cultural identity. People from diverse cultures may express mental health conditions differently than people in the U.S. For example, some people are more likely to come to a healthcare professional with physical symptoms that are caused by a mental health condition. Some cultures have different views and descriptions of mental health conditions.
