Installing an ATM at your place of business increases foot traffic, encourages customers to pay in cash, and helps you save on credit card processing fees. If you’re getting an ATM, assess your options. Explore the types of ATMs that you can use for your business. Being familiar with the range of choices will help you choose wisely.

FreeStanding ATMs

When you research your options and investigate which machines have high ATM sales records, you’ll find that freestanding options are the more popular choice for many business owners. That’s because freestanding ATMs are more convenient. They can be placed in any location. As long as there is enough space and a power supply, you can move your ATM to that spot. That provides a flexible option for many businesses. They can move the machine to whatever location is ideal. If they re-organize their space, they can simply pick a new and better spot for the ATM.

Through-the-Wall ATMs

Aside from freestanding machines, there are also through-the-wall options. These are machines built into the wall, normally housed inside rooms where access is easy to control, resulting in higher levels of security. That's ideal for customers, especially those who withdraw at night. Seeing the secured rooms helps them feel safe while withdrawing cash from the machines. However, this option requires the help of a general contractor. That’s because the machines are built into the wall. The interface is on the other side of the wall. In addition, many through-the-wall machines are heavy and require more space. If you have limited floor space, shop for options carefully. Some of the newer and advanced models are lightweight. With enough research, you should have no trouble finding ATMs that hit the mark.

Basic or Not?

You can also choose from models that only do the bare minimum. You’ve seen many of these models around. They allow customers to withdraw cash and not much else. Some have a feature that enable clients to check the remaining balance in their accounts, but that’s it. However, other more advanced ATM options enable users to make deposits, register for an online account, change their PIN, and more.

How Do You Choose?

Do a market survey. Ask customers about the ATM functions they often use. You can base your buying decision on the results of the survey. Research which features are popular so that you can factor that into your buying decision. After all, it doesn’t make sense to go with models designed with complex, advanced features if only few of your customers will use them.

Which One is Right for You?

Even without the advanced features, it’s ideal to find mid-range options. In a few years, old models will be obsolete and be much harder to use. Also, they have poor security features, so they present more risks to clients. Many of the new models, on the other hand, have better security features to protect customers from thefts and hacking attempts. Think about that when you shop for options.
