The carrying of firearms is an issue that continues to be conflictive, especially after the episodes in the U.S., where shootings are becoming more frequent, and the right to bear arms is frequently questioned.

In the following article, I will explain when you can and cannot bear arms and ammo like 303 British ammo, the process to be followed, and what requirements must be met, among other things.

When do we allow to carry a gun?

The first thing to keep in mind is that under no circumstances is it allowed to carry a weapon without authorization, and the latter is a criminally punishable offense. You cannot carry a weapon when you do not have a license.

Then, no one may carry a firearm outside the place they declared to want to protect with it, whether it is a residence, workplace, or another place. The authorities do not allow you to carry a weapon outside your house if you are not allowed.

Concerning the above, only the authorities and institutions authorized by law may carry weapons permanently. A specific department may grant permits to civilians to carry weapons with ammo like 303 British ammo.

You are authorized to do so for a specific period. Moreover, you need to register this weapon from a specific authority that is allowed to do so.

Who controls the use of arms?

The specific authority in every country controls the use of arms. These authorities have all rights to manage these weapons under the law.

They also keep data of all the licensed weapons issued to the individuals with all the necessary information.

What must I do to carry weapons?

To carry firearms, you must be a natural person over 18 years of age, and you will have to request a permit to carry a previously registered firearm for personal defense from specific authorities.

The authorization will be issued after studying the background information that justifies carrying the weapon.

How can I register my weapon?

It is a procedure carried out before authorities register a firearm. After getting the approval or receiving a registration certificate, you own the firearm. Only one firearm per person; otherwise, you must register them as a collector and not for personal defense.

What are the requirements to register a firearm? To register a gun, you must comply with the following requirements:

  •         Have a known address.
  •         Demonstrate knowledge of the conservation, maintenance, and handling of the firearm you wish to register.
  •         Not to have been convicted of a simple crime or misdemeanor.
  •         Not to have been sentenced to oral trial.
  •         Not to have been sanctioned in proceedings related to Law.
  •         To pay the corresponding fee.

What documents do I need for registration?

To register your firearm, you need:

  •         Application for gun registration.
  •         Certificate from the Bank.
  •         Background certificate for special purposes.
  •         Psychiatric medical certificate.
  •         Simple affidavit to accredit.
  •         Valid credential from the specific agencies if the weapon to be registered is for hunting.
  •         Shooting club certificate (registration) if the firearm being registered is for sport.

How much does this registration cost?

What are the penalties for those who violate the law?

Major imprisonment in any of its degrees, for those persons who organize, belong to, finance, endow, instruct, incite or induce the creation and operation of private militia, combat groups, or organized military parties.

If these crimes are committed by officers of the Armed Forces or Public Order and Security in retirement or active service, the penalties will be increased by one degree. Persons who carry firearms without a permit shall be sentenced to several years imprisonment.

Those possessing a fake or modified firearm will be sentenced to many years. However, there is an exception when the weapons are carried for voluntary surrender to the authorities.

In turn, those who manufacture, arm, modify or bring into the country controlled weapons without authorization risk a sentence of several years.  For the carrying or possessing incendiary bombs (Molotov), the penalties range from 3 years and one day to 10 years.

Those who illegally possess, have, or carry firearms, their parts, devices, and pieces or explosives, including their parts, devices and pieces, detonators, and other similar elements, shall be sentenced to the maximum term of imprisonment.
