WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO FLOSS YOUR TEETH IF BRUSHING ONLY IS NOT ENOUGH??

The human body is made up of several cells the cells then combine to form many tissues, the tissues form organs and the organs are the organ systems. Certain organs are reserved for certain organ systems and are specifically functioning in that particular system that is in sync with that particular organ system of the body. Like the ovaries in the females constitute the reproductive system of the body the ovaries produce hormones like estrogen, and progesterone and release eggs that are in sync with the fallopian tube and the vagina. The ovaries cannot perform the functions of the heart or the kidneys, and vice versa.

But did you know there is one part of the body that performs the functions of both the skeletal system and the digestive system, let us understand this through means of an example if you observe aged people in their late 60’s and 70’s the people usually have a sunken shape and have difficulty in digesting the food they have been eating?

The reason being the teeth have begun to get weak in their internal structure and hence there is a hindrance in the process of digestion and providing symmetry to the face. As we all might have been aware the process of digestion begins in the mouth, where the teeth tear, grind and chew the food by the process of mastication and simplify it and pass it on to the digestive system for the process of assimilation.

A popular well read dentist in Bangalore explains “ We cannot reverse the process of ageing, but we can take care of our teeth when they are in their best form to delay the process of deteriorating while we are at the threshold of Old age. One important way of taking care of teeth apart from brushing twice a day is flossing. Flossing is a process that 6 out of 0 people are not even aware of.

WHAT IS FLOSSING??

  1. “Flossing” is a process of using a thin chord-like structure to clean the accumulated debris within the interiors of the dental structure where the toothbrush is unable to reach.
  2. An experienced dentist in Ludhiana who has been studying the evolution of dental care explains “The history of flossing traces back to world war 1 when soldiers in battlefields did not have access to basic brushing amenities like toothbrushes, toothpaste and water, that is when they started using silken threads to clean the interiors of their teeth which later on with the advent of time came to be known as FLOSSING”.

ADVANTAGES OF FLOSSING

  1. Flossing eradicates the minute and slightest possibilities of tooth plaque by removing all the debris crammed in between the intestines of the teeth because flossing helps to reach those regions of the teeth where the brush is unable to reach.
  2. Reduces bad breath – The process of flossing reduces bad breath as food trapped within the gums tends to decompose at night and emit a foul smell because of the action of bacteria.
  3. Prevents gum disease – Flossing prevents the appearance of gum disease which helps get rid of the food trapped in between the gums and thus battle gingivitis, a dreadful gum disease.
