The most notorious murderer in Deadwood is Ack McCall. On August 2, 1876, as Wild Bill Hickok was engaged in a game of cards, McCall entered Nuttal & Mann's Saloon #10 and fired a single shot into the back of Hickok's head. In an apparent attempt to get Ellsworth murdered in a fight, Hearst sends one of his men to shoot at her on the street in an effort to scare her. Swearengen stops it from happening, but one of Hearst's men subsequently kills Ellsworth.
