A guide to creating the best name card for your business

When it comes to name cards no scale can properly measure how important they are for any business or individual. You may find them to be small and not useful, yet they serve some of the most important purposes.

A name card reflects the identity and vision of your brand, giving the owner a more professional and serious look. As some say a good impression is a name card away. However, poorly crafted name cards kill the entire purpose of going through all the trouble to have some printed for yourself.

Now that we are here you don’t have to worry about your name cards at all. We, at the one printer, will help you develop a good understanding of what you should be focusing on and what you should be avoiding when printing name cards.

A guide to creating the best name card for your business

1.      Fonts

People are more focused on being creative when it comes to name cards. Name cards are not your canvas , the focus is not on being creative. With name cards, when it comes to fonts, the focus lies on ease. How easy are they to read and decipher.

A difficult to perceive name card tends to leave a very dull impression on the receiver and we don’t want that. For this reason, there are certain do’s and don’ts that you need to follow with fonts.

Whenever you are designing a name card always try to choose a font that can be used in multiple weights. Having a font that can be used as condensed or semi bold or bold, helps forming an information hierarchy, enabling the reader to easily trace a path on the card.

Readability of the font mainly lies on the font size and how close the writing is to other lines. It is recommended that you use a font size of at least 6 points or larger with a minimum line spacing of 0.25. This makes your name card have a good readable look.

Using different fonts or using font in all caps, is a big no in the name card printing market. This makes the name card rank poorly on the readability chart and hence make your name card non-effective.

2.      Focus on the information you give

One must always remember that a name card does not require you to fill the space. It requires you to give out the necessary information without crowding the name card. For this reason, every name card designer emphasizes greatly on using only essential information and leaving out the unnecessary details.

In simple words, having to much information crammed onto the name card can serve as a turn off for people. This makes them lose focus almost immediately and they might even not view your name card properly.

3.      Bleeding is important

If you are to design a name card whereby you require edge to edge printing, then bleeding is highly important for you.

With bleeding you need to leave extra room around your design to get an exact 100% edge to edge print. Even with so much technology printing techniques are still not perfect enough to print without bleeding.

Hence when you design your name card be sure to leave an extra edge of 2 to 3mm around the cutting area. Always be careful about the centering of your text. Use borders to make sure you are well centered. Most importantly do not place important text on the edge because it might get cut off.
