Are We Living In A World Of Dystopian Fiction?

Amidst a life-threatening pandemic, unpredictable weather patterns, and the overflow of polarized propaganda, one can’t help but wonder: Is this our new reality? Are we unwittingly treading the path of dystopian tales? A dystopian future portrays a society stripped of humanity, where fear and oppression reign supreme.

Many consider dystopia unreal, a fantasy only alive in books. However, at some point, even fiction becomes a reflection of our reality. Let’s find out how today’s world resembles the stories we read here.

Signs Of Dystopia In The Real World

Earth has experienced drastic changes over these last two decades;  from seismic events to natural disasters, everything resembles an arc from dystopian fiction. But all these changes were not sudden or unexpected; they were predicted already by astrologers, historians, and scientists centuries ago.

One such personality includes Nostradamus, a French astrologer from the 1555s who rose to prominence due to the uncanny similarities between global events and his predictions. Here are some prophecies of the Nostradamus that indicate that we are getting closer to dystopia every passing day.

Economic Catastrophe

An unthinkable pandemic and three years of lockdown have flipped the global economy upside down. The living and fuel costs have reached an all-time high, making it difficult to manage day-to-day expenses. Nostradamus concurred that the economic tumult would continue to worsen and that “man will be eating his fellow man,” representing many people’s greed and hunger to fill their plates with food and luxuries.

Due to the rising prices of household necessities, the current global hunger crisis continues to grow enormously; around 345 million people are estimated to face food insecurity in the upcoming year. Approximately 200 million people are struggling to find fundamental necessities for their families.

Climatic Catastrophe

The day is not far when people would start buying some land on Mars.

A French clairvoyant, Nostradamus, predicted a series of climatic disasters that would change the traditional landscape forever. He indicated that there would be no rain seen for forty years, a prediction of the arid landscapes that are now becoming a hot button. He supported this claim by adding further that,

For forty years, it will be seen regularly,

The dry Earth will grow more parched,

And there will be great floods when it is seen.

Something similar is happening with us in the current year, 2023; many regions of the world witnessed urban flooding, while some places did not even experience a small splatter of rain throughout the year. Global warming poses a problem on Earth, pointing to the dystopian effects it can have.

Civil Unrest And International Conflicts

The Ukraine-Russian war and the growing aggression in societies against the prevalence of inequality and social injustice are not overnight events; they are a consequence of years of oppression and revolt. The French astrologer also sensed the graveness of these circumstances centuries before their occurrences.

We believe the world could be much worse than our current reality makes us think. And it is becoming just that as predictions from historians come true. It is also a sign for us to reprimand and work for a better cause before we are left at the mercy of time, Like the people of The Destruction of Time by Aritra Jana.

It accurately depicts what our world will look like if social and ethical evils persist. It is a portrayal of a society similar to ours where people anticipate the end of the world to see the rise of a new era, a rebirth after integrating all the communities into one, destroying the dominance of time.
