'Ohtani is gone, but we have Trout!'
Mike Trout (33-USA) of the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball (MLB) has been swinging the bat early in the season. Shohei Ohtani, who led the team's offense last season, hasn't faltered since joining the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is tied for the major league lead in home runs, thanks to his tremendous long ball power.
The outfielder started the 2023 MLB regular season opener against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Aug. 18 (ET). Batting second and playing center field for the Angels, Trout went 1-for-4 with one double, one home run, one RBI, one run scored and one walk.
You hit a home run in your first at-bat. Pounded opposing starting pitcher Jack Little. Drew a full-count walk and arched his back. He hit the first pitch for a foul, and fouled off pitches two and three. The fourth pitch was fouled off again, and the fifth pitch was a ball. He hit the 6th pitch and fouled it off again. On the seventh pitch, he hit a 93.1-mile-per-hour sinker. The ball was driven up the middle for a home run.
His eighth cannon of the season. He didn't put much effort into it, and the pitch stretched out and cleared the center field fence. It hit 105.4 miles per hour (169.6 km/h), traveled 400 feet (121.9 meters), and had a 26-degree launch angle. It was his second home run in as many days, coming two days after his homer against Tampa Bay on Aug. 16. In all 18 games the Angels have played this 토토 season, he has eight home runs. If you do the math, he's on pace to hit 72 home runs in 162 games this season.
He jumped into a tie for the NL lead with Marcell Ozuna of the Atlanta Braves with eight home runs. Eight of his 20 hits this season have been home runs. He also added one double and two triples to showcase his tremendous long ball production. In total, he batted .282 with 11 doubles, 12 RBIs, three home runs, three doubles, a .363 slugging percentage, a .690 on-base percentage, and a 1.053 OPS.
In the game, the Angels rallied from behind to take the lead. Trout's home run in the top of the first inning gave the Angels an early lead, but a run in the bottom of the inning tied the game at 1-1. They scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-1 lead, but gave up one and two runs in the bottom of the sixth and eighth innings, respectively, to fall behind 3-4. In their final at-bat in the bottom of the ninth inning, they came back. Three hits and two walks were enough to secure the win, and the defense closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning to seal the victory.
With the victory, the Dodgers moved back to .500 with nine wins and nine losses. The Rays remain in second place in the American League West, half a game back of the Texas Rangers (10-9). Tampa Bay fell to 10-9 and dropped into a three-way tie for third place in the American League East.
