Many of the queries I hear from folks who want to make the jump include a small home bathroom. Everything from what sort of shower I have to whether I have a basin or a toilet in my bathroom. There's a lot that goes into designing a small house bathroom, and since I've been living full-time in my tiny home since 2014, I thought I'd give some tips on how to construct your perfect tiny house bathroom.

The Fundamentals of Tiny House Bathroom Design

Before we get into the specifics, let's take a step back and consider what a restroom is and what it accomplishes. This is a critical phase since it allows us to accurately orient ourselves to what the design's purpose should be. This allows us to determine what features of the bathroom are essential and which should be eliminated.

Depending on your habits, you will get up and clean your teeth on any given day. Then you may jump in the shower, wash, walk out, and dry off. You'll brush and maybe style your hair after drying it with a hair dryer. You may next put on some jewelry, such as a watch or earrings. You'll put your soiled clothing away and put on fresh ones. You could then apply cosmetics if you wear it, and so forth.

You'll need to use the restroom later in the day, so you use the toilet. You decide that the toilet may need a good cleaning, so you get some cleaning tools. You have a headache and go in quest of some relief. You may decide it's time to change the towels, so you toss them in the hamper and grab for new ones; while you're doing it, you may decide to replace the bed linens as well.

Think about your day and what you do on a regular and irregular basis. Make a list of everything you do in your bathroom, including what you reach for, what you keep there, and the items you need to make it all function. Then consider what you don't like about your bathroom. What is a necessity, as opposed to a want, that my existing bathroom does not meet?

After you've gone over your list, cut away the unnecessary items to get down to the basics. At this stage, I recommend doing a dry run in your present bathroom. Reduce your small home bathroom needs to the basic necessities and see whether it works for you. Is it feasible? After a few weeks, you'll realize there are some items you absolutely need and others you don't. You now have a good idea of what your bathroom should do and what should be in it.

Designing A Tiny House Bathroom

A small home bathroom requires plumbing, fixtures, lighting, electricity, and a variety of other elements to function properly. The kitchen and bathroom are two of the most complicated rooms in the home, and they need extensive planning. Spend the time here to establish sound plans, and your time and work will pay off in the long run.

Begin by working from the list you just made of what your bathroom needs to perform and hold. My recommendation is to bring out all of those objects and determine the best position and arrangement for them, then construct your storage around those items. I'd also double what you think you need in terms of storage to be more flexible and expand into if necessary. Bathroom storage can make or break a modest dwelling.

Now that we know precisely what our storage will be and look like, we can start layering in our fixtures. These are an essential part of any compact home bathroom. You usually have a sink, shower, vanity, cupboards, toilet, mirror, towel rack, and maybe a tub.

Some individuals cannot envision living without a bathtub, while others are content with a shower. Others offer a large selection of hair care and cosmetics. Whatever it is that you do, try to stand back and assess what actually needs to be there. Again, I recommend that you test it out in your present bathroom.

What would life be like without a bathtub, simply taking showers? What if you just maintained enough cosmetics to fill a little plastic caddy, keeping the rest in a box in the closet for your experiment? What if you could only have three bottles of product in your shower? Simply test it; if it still doesn't work after a few weeks in your present bathroom, you've shown that they are vital. You'll also realize that some things you believed were "essentials" weren't.
