If you're ready to explore the Sooner State and experience some of its roadside attractions then you need to travel with some preparation. There are several different locations all across the state that represent its diverse history as well as the passion of many different people. Are you ready to begin?

Lady Leg Lamp from A Christmas Story, Chickasha

What many people thought started off as a joke, or as a way to draw in crowds during Christmas time into Chickasha, turned into one of the biggest attractions for the area.

This is a relatively young attraction for the city, as well as for the state. The idea began in 2018 when designer Tim Elliott wondered why his hometown couldn't have something as extravagant as other towns.

At first, he faced a lot of controversy regarding installing the structure, but he did win out when people realized that it was something that would put their city on the map. Now, this classic and iconic lamp is on display year round for anyone to come and see.

Ed Galloway’s Totem Pole Park, Foyil

Diving back into the 1930s, we have an artist known as Nathan Edward Galloway who decided to begin building totem poles to represent the Native American tribes that had been in the area despite not being of Native American heritage. In a way, he also wanted to humble those who didn't understand the history of the area.

The largest claim to fame that the full display has, is that it has the largest totem pole at 90 ft tall and 134 tons. It was constructed out of concrete and sand that the artist actually gathered from a nearby stream.

People who had the privilege of watching him construct the totem pole as well as the other cultural items in the area distinctly remember watching him carry buckets of sand by hand until each project was done.

Tulsa Flower District, Tulsa

Since 2019, Tulsa has become known as one of the powerhouses for the development of marijuana both medically and recreationally in recent years.

As one of the forerunners in the marijuana race, the City of Tulsa actually devoted an entire strip mall to the wellness and health of others via the use of medical marijuana. To date, it is the only strip mall of its kind!

One of the largest claims to fame in the strip mall is a dispensary called APCO Med which is considered one of the largest dispensaries with one of the largest bars and facilities dedicated to the wellness of people.

Not only do they have dispensary specialists available, they also provide meditation practices, sound treatment, as well as some forms of therapy. They work closely with local doctors in order to ensure that patients have the best as well as the most fruitful experience.

Museum of Osteology, Oklahoma City

If you're a little more interested in the oddities of life, then you'll want to make your way over to Oklahoma City to the Museum of Osteology. This is definitely not a regular museum!

Not only do the employees and the founder of the museum handle the treatment, decomposition, and cleaning of every bone that comes through the museum, but they also have a wealth of knowledge regarding every single specimen that is available. What's even better is that next door, they have their own store for selling different specimen skulls and bones!

Full-size Transformer, Stillwater

If you've seen anything from the Transformers franchise, then you're aware of how massive the transforming vehicles are. Well, so was fan Mike McCubbin when he first bought two Autobots, Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, from a company in Thailand.

Upon their arrival, Mike soon realized that these vehicles, while incredible in size, did not fit up to the standards that he held with not only his work but with his fandom as well. For many months, and probably well into a year, Mike took both Bumblebee and Optimus Prime apart and began to replace the fabricated parts with real and working Automotive pieces.

Not only are they two large Autobots that halt traffic, but they are also made with love and care. If you visit, Mike will happily point out every single part to you!

Conclusion

No matter where you go, especially along Route 66, you're going to find a lot of different roadside attractions. These are only five of the hundreds of different attractions that you can look for along the roads in Oklahoma. These are definitely the most famous, however, never be afraid to try and find a new roadside attraction!
