Firefighting Goes To A New Level After Scientists Develop A 'Flying Dragon'

Firefighting Goes To A New Level After Scientists Develop A 'Flying Dragon'
4 min read

Fire outbreaks are not easy to contain, and you might understand that better if you take time to chat with experienced firefighters from anywhere in the world. It is a new dawn, and this after we received good news from Chinese innovators. The scientists have succeeded to build a “dragon” firefighting robot after consistent and continuous attempts.

A close focus

The principle behind the recent innovation is such that the dragon, equipped with arms of automation, should fly and at the same time emit water to extinguish flames. The good news is that the innovation is going to be useful to firefighters from around the globe. It has been launched as an open Science, which implies that anyone can use the principle freely. It is great news to roboticists globally since they will use the principle in developing their own without being barred by any authorities. Such innovations will mark a new beginning worldwide in handling the threat of fire.

An assistant professor at Osaka University called Dr. Yuichi Ambe opines, "We here present a prototype of a four-meter-long, remotely controllable flying firehose robot, engineered too safely and efficiently extinguish fires in buildings by directly approaching the fire sources. It was back in 2016 that a research team at Tohoku University outlined that they would start working on similar flying robots. They started their activities at Prof Satoshi Tadokoro's laboratory and there are several positive things to be said about the whole thing. Reports indicate that 11 researchers have given their ideological contributions to spur further development of the robot.

The working principle

The fire dragon horse of this giant development takes an upward trajectory as it spouts jests of water from both the head and its center. It is able to change its dragon head as it orients to calm the raging flames. Behind is a dragon cart usually connected to the water reservoir. Fighting fire becomes easier considering that the reservoir, shaped like a dragon, holds up to 14,000 liters of water.

The rate of water emission is high and the pressure is also great. It emits at 6.6 liters per second, which is a rather desirable attribute in destroying the flames. Reports also indicate that the pressure standing at one megapascal.

The machine also comes along with a thermal imaging camera, which does quite a remarkable job finding the location of the fire. Innovations transforming city. From this description, it is easy to tell that these scientists are propelling the world at large to the right direction. It is impressive that more research continues to be done in a quest to make further improvements. The threat of fire outbreaks is real, and there is need to support such innovations. The World Robot Summit 2020 (WRS2020) conducted in Fukushima back in 2021 gave room for the unveiling of Dragon Firefighter project.

A massive ceremonial flame calmed down, and that is how people realized the power of the giant flame killer. It was able to bring down the flame in about 49 min 00 s to 51 min 00 s.The scientists used another robot to light up the fireballs used for the demonstration. We are walking into a new era where firefighting will be easier, and that is thanks to the innovators that gave us access to that massive transformation in firefighting.
