How do you get hold of Minecraft capes, you ask? You may have heard rumours about the mythical piece of cloth that graces the shoulders of the most prestigious Minecraft players. Legends talk of numerous Minecraft capes that were given to the fortunate few over the years. Word on the block (sigh) is that capes can also alter the appearance of Minecraft Elytra, the magical wings that are found on end ships, as they share the same space on a player's back. It's no surprise that Minecraft capes are highly sought-after however they're not easy to obtain.

Anyone who attended a Minecon event before Minecon Earth 2017 each received Minecraft capes; each year, a different colour and design. The most unusual are the personal capes gifted to lucky individuals for their achievements, like Reddit user u/billyk_, who received a personalized turtle cape for suggesting Mojang should include turtles in Minecraft.

Unless you can think of a solution as good as turtles (unlikely) or travel back to the days of Minecon It appears that you're not going to obtain any of these Minecraft capes in the Java version. They're more popular in the Bedrock version due to the numerous skin packs available on the Marketplace. If you'd like to have them free, you can test to make a cape with the assistance of Minecraft mods, but it'll only be visible to you. There's currently a Minecraft cape for the Java edition, though it's not available yet, so keep reading to find out how to get it.

Get a Minecraft cape by migrating your account to Minecraft.

In a blog post published in 2020, Mojang announced that it will be migrating all Minecraft Java edition accounts from Mojang to Microsoft. This is a requirement, so if you don't switch your account to Microsoft when the time comes and you don't get it, you'll be able to play Minecraft unless you utilize the launcher.

On the plus side,, once you log into Minecraft with your Microsoft account, you'll gain access to a brand new cape and possibly more, as Mojang hints at players receiving more than one outfit to showcase'. New Minecraft accounts are automatically created using Microsoft instead of Mojang.

You can find out more on how to do it by reading this blog post from Mojang.

How to activate Minecraft capes

If you have an official Minecraft cape, you can equip them prior to starting a game. Your capes Bedrock caps are only available for that version. The same applies to any capes earned in Minecraft Java version.

Open the app and click on the button to open the Dressing Room from your main menu. Then, click the tab to the left of it, with a red cape and Mojang's logo. EDITUM This will display all available capes. Click on one to equip.

To play the Java version, you'll need to open the Launcher and select Minecraft: Java Edition on the left side of the screen. There are a variety of options at the top, including Skins. Click this option to display all of your current skins. From here, you can create a new skin or edit an existing one. Under the option to choose a Skin File, you will see all your officially available caps.

Find a cape by using Minecraft mods

What if you want your avatar to have a cape right now and aren't interested in the free cape for migration? With the help of mods, you can have your own cape to roar behind you as you walk! Mods like the Advanced Capes Mod make it possible to get any of the most sought-after capes in the game or any cape you can think of.

There's a caveat to this: other players you meet on multiplayer Minecraft servers aren't able to see your cape unless they also have the same mods installed. So the only way to have caps that everyone can see is to wait for official capes to be given to you by Mojang when it migrates your account.

This is everything you must know about buying yourself an amazing Minecraft cape If you're looking for a cape to add a touch of style to your outfit, here are the best Minecraft skins we've come across or you can deck yourself out with a full outfit of Minecraft Netherite armour.
