How to Troubleshoot Outlook Rules Not Working Issue?

It becomes easier to manage email with Outlook rules. Outlook rules allow you to filter, mark and sort incoming emails. However, one may come across Outlook rules not working office 365 issues. If you are also experiencing the same problem, then try to resolve this issue by applying the solutions mentioned below. 

Please Ensure that Rules are Enabled

You may face Outlook rules not working issue if rules are disabled. To troubleshoot this problem, you need to enable the rules. To enable rules on Outlook, carry out the simple steps mentioned below. 

  1. Launch Outlook and select Files. After that, choose the option of Rules and Alerts. 

  2. Now, go to the dialog box of Rules and Alerts. After that, check that the checkboxes of concerned rules are selected. If they are unchecked, then check them. 

Delete Rules and Recreate Them

If you find that the rules are damaged or corrupt, then delete the rules and then recreate them. Below are the steps that you need to follow to delete and recreate the rules. 

  1. First of all, close Outlook and then open the Start menu. 

  2. Now, go to the search area, enter exe/cleanrules and allow the system to perform the search. 

  3. Once your system finds exe/cleanrules command-line switch, press enter and delete Outlook rules. 

  4. After that, use the Rules Wizard to recreate the rules. 

If some of the Outlook rules are not working, then delete those selected rules instead of deleting all the rules. To delete a selected few rules, follow the steps mentioned below.  

  1. Launch Outlook and then click on File.

  2. After that, select the option of manage Rules and Alerts to launch the Run and Alerts dialog box. 

  3. Choose the rules you wish to delete and then select Delete. 

Reset SRS Files 

A user can experience Outlook rules not working office 365 problem if the SRS files are damaged or corrupt. In order to resolve this issue, you need to reset the SRS file. This can easily be done by following the simple steps mentioned below. 

  1. Go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook. 

  2. Change the name of the Outlook.srs file to Outlook.srs.old. 

  3. Restart Outlook. Now, a new SRS file will be created.
