IOS 16 Lets you Connect Nintendo Switch Controllers to your Iphone or IPad

Do you own a Nintendo Switch and occasionally enjoy playing mobile games on your iPhone or iPad? You'll be pleased to learn that the iOS 16 update will allow you to connect Nintendo Joy-Con controllers directly to your Apple device. It's among the five new features that will be included in the new operating system.

Game makers have made mobile gaming more complicated over the past few years. You can play games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty and Apex Legends on your mobile device by using services such as GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Your tablet or phone has a smaller screen than your TV, which means there is less real estate for visuals and controls, and therefore a gaming controller might be necessary.

If you already have a Nintendo Switch, there's no need to buy a third-party gaming controller. There are two connected to both sides of the console. The most impressive thing is that the Joy-Cons are able to be paired with your iPhone or iPad in just two minutes.



For this to function for this to work, you'll need running iOS 16, which is currently available as a public beta. Here's how you can download it right now.



How to connect your JoyCons to your iPhone or iPad If not, simply attach them to the Nintendo Switch while it's charging in the dock. Once your Joy-Cons have been recharged, remove them from your console.



1. Press and hold the black pairing button on the top of the Joy-Con until you can see the green light blinking between the two. This puts the Joy-Con in pairing mode.



2. Then on your iPhone or iPad go to Settings >Bluetooth.



3. Scroll down to find the Joy-Con in Other Devices. You should see either Joy-Con (L) or Joy-Con (R), depending on the Joy-Con that you're currently pairing.



4. To pair it, just tap the Joy-Con option. If needed you want to repeat the process, just do it using the other Joy-Con.

After your Joy-Cons are connected with each other, you can launch any game that is compatible with third-party controllers like Minecraft, Among Us and Call of Duty, and play with your newly-paired Joy-Cons. Some mobile games do not support both Joy-Con controllers at once and you may only require pairing one.



To disconnect Joy-Cons, go to Settings >Bluetooth and tap the blue information icon. Then, tap Disconnect.
