Nutramigen infant formula recall is associated with Mead Johnson & corporation, LLC is an American corporation that produces Nutramigen. Mead Johnson is one of the top producers of baby formula. Edward Mead Johnson, one of Johnson & Johnson's co-founders, founded the business. Mead Johnson Nutrition Company was acquired by Reckitt Benckiser Group plc in JUNE 2017, and it is currently run as a separate company of Reckitt.
Mead Johnson's baby formula product, Nutramigen, is designed specifically for infants and young children who are allergic to soy and the protein found in cow's milk. The hypoallergenic, iron-enriched infant formula Nutramigen is available.
Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition (MJN) formally declared the recall of a few batches of their Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Infant Formula Powder on December 30, 2023. More than 657,000 baby formula cans are included in the recall. According to the firm, 12.6 and 19.8 ounce cans of Nutramigen Powder that are sold in the US are affected by the recall.
Nutramigen in 12.6 oz cans with batch codes ZL3FHG, ZL3FMH, ZL3FPE, ZL3FQD, and ZXL3FXJ as well as 19.8 oz cans with batch number ZL3FRW are subject to recall.The UPC codes for these recalled infant formula cans are 300871239418 or 300871239456, and the "Use By Date" is "1 Jan 2025."
The recall, according to MJN, was brought on by a "possibility of contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii." The recalled product was produced in June 2023 and shipped out in July and August of the same year. A contaminated overseas sample was the cause of the recall.
Infants under two months old, premature newborns, infants with weakened immune systems, and low birth weight neonates are most susceptible to Cronobacter sakazakii infections. Despite being rare, cronobacter infections can be lethal for neonates with impaired immune systems.
The important thing to remember is that the same bacteria was responsible for earlier recalls of baby and infant formula, such as the Abbott recall that led to the company's Sturgis, Michigan, facility closing in 2022.
Customers who purchased Nutramigen should check the bottom of the can to see if the product is part of the impacted batch number, per the company's recall notice. It is not recommended to utilise the product if it is part of the recalled batch. The business had promised to give customers who bought the recalled cans a complete refund.
