Many of us were first introduced to Minecraft when Microsoft announced that it would pay $2.5bn (PS1.5bn) for the company behind the best-selling video game.

But for several years now an entire community of gamers has been working in the Minecraft universe, meticulously crafting intricate cyberspace marvels.
Here are our top seven picks:
Game of Thrones
Mapmakers WesterosCraft is with a goal: to recreate the world George RR Martin created in the Game of Thrones books. The goal is to create an opportunity for roleplaying in the fantasy world.
A working 16-bit computer
In less than two weeks, a Minecraft gamer named ohmganesha created an 16-bit computer. The virtual machine includes 32 bytes of RAM (random-access memory) and an ROM of 256 bytes (read-only memory).
This Cathedral
Patrix the architect of the cathedral said that it took him only a couple of nights to build. He said that he had never been inside the cathedral in person.
A hard drive that is functional
Cody Littley's hard drive can hold one kilobyte of data. It might seem small in comparison to the ordinary discs. But you have to take into account that Mr Littley is a Texas computer science PhD student, constructed it piece by piece.
An entire city
The artists behind the Aurora City Project admit it might never be finished, and the detail of their cityscapes provide an clues as to why. You can view a variety of screenshots here.
All of Denmark
To help children learn to read, the Danish government decided to map the entire country on Minecraft. The project was later vandalized and a portion of the landscape were blown up using virtual "dynamite".
