AirPods Pro 2: Everything we know so far

AirPods Pro 2: Everything we know so far
3 min read

This fall, Apple is expected to introduce the second generation AirPods Pro, and there have been a number of rumored changes that could be made. Starting with the design. Since 2016, all AirPods have featured a stem. But with the AirPods Pro 2, that might change. Mark Gurman at Bloomberg said, “Apple wants to make the ‌AirPods Pro‌ 2 more compact by eliminating the short stem that sticks out from the bottom.” This means the new model may look similar to Galaxy Buds. Something many AirPods users have been hoping for. But a leak from an alleged internal source at Apple provided photos of the new AirPods Pro 2. And they still have the stem, a design that appears to make more practical sense.

Since Apple wants to include health sensors like a heart rate detector and body temperature reader, which would require more space than the previous generation AirPods Pro. Not to mention the haptic pressure controls are built into the stem, so removing it would create a number of practical issues that could be avoided by simply using the same design. But the AirPods Pro 2 charging case is expected to look different. With the inclusion of a new lanyard opening to easily attach the case to a bag.

And speaker holes at the bottom, allowing it to play a sound when lost so users can easily locate it. USB-C could also replace the lighting port in order to comply with new 2023 regulations by the European Union, although there are conflicting rumors. But one thing that seems to be very likely is performance improvements. Thanks to a new H1 chip with better active noise cancellation and support for lossless audio. Which is a much higher quality file format that results in more detailed sound. The reason why previous AirPods couldn’t support lossless is due to Bluetooth limitations. This suggests Apple has found a new way to wirelessly connect AirPods to devices.

But even if you’re listening to standard AAC audio files, the new AirPods Pro 2 will make those sound better as well. Thanks to upgraded high-amplitude drive units and high-dynamic-range amplifiers. The new model is expected to sell at the same $250 price, and will likely be introduced alongside the new iPhone 14 this fall.
