The World is Surrounded by an Invisible Wall

The first version, which was launched on December 2, 2009, was more limited than any other edition of Minecraft ever released to the public, including the pre-classic version available from the Minecraft Launcher. The controls were changed and additional blocks were added to the game. [2]

The original site hosting the game was removed in November 2014. The archive can be accessed using the Wayback Machine. The executable is also accessible on the Internet Archive.

On December 2, 2012 Notch released a JavaScript version of Minecraft 4k. It isn't possible to move or look around in this version, but the camera or world does move by itself and there is an aqua-colored blue block in addition to the other types of blocks. [3]

Gameplay[]

General[]

The player can place and destroy blocks. The only block that a player can place is grass, similar to the very first versions of Minecraft internally referred to as RubyDung that are accessible via the Minecraft Launcher. Leaves do not decay.

World[]

Each time the game is loaded it is the same 64x64x63-block universe is created. There are only two blocks in the game that are air, grass block, dirt block, stone bricks and bricks. No mobs exist.

The initial build of the game has one type of block which uses a XOR fractal as a texture.

A wall of invisible walls protects the world and stops players from fleeing, similar to invisible bedrock, or an old world.

Controls[]

The player can move using standard WASD controls, as well as jumping with Space.

Left- and right-clicking controls are reversed from traditional Minecraft controls; left-click places blocks and right-click destroys them. Middle-click also places blocks in a way that isn't enough. The camera is "smoothly" activated by moving the mouse, just like pressing F8 in Java Edition. This version is not able to be altered.

The camera functions differently from Minecraft's. The camera moves only when the cursor is moved a significant distance from the center of Minecraft's viewport. Blocks around the world are chosen by the player's cursor, rather than the center of the screen.

The game does not have any kind of options menu or HUD.

Graphics[]

Since the game renders at an extremely low resolution, the graphics appear as if they are pixelated. The game doesn't scale the resolution correctly when it is running at higher resolution. This makes the game retain its noisy appearance. Block textures are like those used in Classic and Classic 0.30 (Creative), as Classic 0.30 (Creative) was the most recent version of Minecraft at the time. The majority of blocks appear louder than their Minecraft counterparts, although certain blocks, particularly stone, are a lot different. The sky is black due to the absence of a skybox.

When hovering the cursor over a block, the outline of the block is thick and white, as opposed to Minecraft's thin gray outline of the block selection.

Another screenshot showing the same.

Blocks[]

The original game only had one non-air block.

In the second version blocks IDs are stored with four bits, giving 16 possible IDs. These are mostly filled in with slightly different textures of dirt.
