Use the Tesla Mobile Connector at any outlet to charge your Tesla
3 min read

Tesla owners may use a regular power outlet to charge their electric cars (EVs) thanks to the Tesla Mobile Connector. When a dedicated Tesla charging station or other fast charging choices are not available, it comes as standard equipment with most Tesla vehicles and offers a handy charging option.

Depending on the model, the Tesla Mobile Connector is a portable charging system that contains a charging cable with a Tesla-specific connector on one end and a typical NEMA 5-15, NEMA 5-20, or NEMA 14-50 outlet on the other. The NEMA 5-15 plug is a typical residential outlet with a voltage of 120 volts, although the NEMA 5-20 and NEMA 14-50 plugs have a greater voltage of 240 volts and are frequently used in some residences, RV parks, and other places.

Depending on the outlet it is plugged into, the Mobile Connector is made to allow Level 1 or Level 2 charging. Depending on the connector's version, the maximum charging rate can reach 32 amps. As a result, Tesla owners may charge their cars at a rate of 3–4 miles of range per hour with a typical 120–volt outlet and much more quickly with a higher–powered 240–volt outlet.

Mobile Connector for Tesla

When you are away from home on extended trips, the Tesla Mobile Connector allows you to charge your car at moderate to slow speeds from a variety of outlets. Regular household electricity can be used to charge a range of up to 3 miles per hour. Using a 240 volt outlet can increase range by up to 30 miles per hour, depending on the car model.

Note: For recharging at home, we advise using the Wall Connector. It is advised to install a Wall Connector at home and to charge your vehicle at a Tesla Supercharger or Destination Charging facility.

These are the current Mobile Connector bundle's contents:

  • NEMA 5-15 mobile connector (20 feet)
  • adapter for 120 volt domestic outlets
  • Cable bag organizer
  • The NEMA 14-50 adapter will also be part of Mobile Connector from August

Included adapter with Tesla Mobile Connector

NEMA 5-15 will be the Included adapter with 120 volt /15 amp breaker for Common household outlet and here is their Charge speed:

  • Model 3: 6 miles/hour of charge
  • Model S: 5 miles/hour of charge
  • Model X: 4 miles/hour of charge
  • Model Y: 5 miles/hour of charge

The Tesla Mobile Connector, in general, is a flexible and practical option for Tesla owners who need to charge their electric vehicle in places where specialized Tesla charging stations are not practicable or accessible, like at home, at a friend's house, or while traveling. Tesla customers may now charge their vehicles wherever there is a compatible power outlet, giving them more freedom and peace of mind. The Mobile Connector may take longer to charge than higher-powered Tesla charging stations, so it's vital to keep that in mind. Whenever possible, it is advised to use higher-powered charging choices to save charging periods.
