We spoke to Tobias Mollstam (web developer for Mincraft.net) about the challenges that come with rapid growth.

We know from experience that dealing with a large number of customers is the toughest part of an in-house team of just a few. This was the problem Mojang faced at a very high level, especially when their license purchase confirmation emails were lost.

Before we switched to Postmark we had an individual machine that was used to send emails, which was basically stabbing in the dark since we weren't doing all the tedious work that comes with ensuring that e-mails are delivered. As our user base increased as did our support tickets for lost purchase confirmations therefore something was going to have to change.

Time is everything when you're selling hundreds of copies of your software each hour.

...probably my favorite part of the service, Postmark took about 3 minutes to begin and has been churning away ever since. Now we even have metrics of the way our transactional e-mails are performing. We're back to the future!

Sorry people, the DeLorean isn't included in your Postmark account. It only comes after players make use of the game to construct scale replicas for the Starship Enterprise.

A huge thank to Tobias for taking the time to talk to us - and congratulations on the continued success of Minecraft! We are huge fans of Minecraft and it's a pleasure to be able to improve the experience of their players.
