Who came up with the name , El Nino?

The name "El Niño" was coined by Peruvian fishermen in the 19th century, who observed the intermittent warming of the ocean waters along the northern coast of Peru and named it after the Christ child, "El Niño" in Spanish, because the warming event often occurred around Christmas time.
