Points are earned by constructing settlements, cities, and having the longest road and the most knights (which are earned by playing special cards).

Players can use resources to build roads and settlements. Roads allow players to move around the board and gain access to resources. Settlements are placed at the intersections of roads, and provide additional victory points as well as access to resources. Cities are upgraded settlements and provide additional victory points. 

Players can also acquire development cards, which can provide additional victory points, resources, or other benefits. As players build and accumulate resources, they can also trade with each other. This is done either through direct trades or through a bank, where players can exchange resources for cards. 

At the end of the game, the player with the most victory points wins or the first player to accumulate 10 victory points. If two or more players are tied, then the player with the most resources wins.
