The Tesla Model Y is not just an electric vehicle; it's a manifestation of automotive excellence. Within Tesla's electric vehicle lineup, Model Y occupies a significant position, bridging the gap between the compact Model 3 sedan and the larger Model X SUV. Model Y offers a long-range distance of 330 miles on a single charge with a top speed of 155 mph. Furthermore, the Model Y performance model astounds with extraordinary agility, blasting to 60mph in just 3.5 seconds.

With an ambitious forecast by Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk in 2016, he predicted the demand for the Model Y crossover BEV to reach an impressive range of 500,000 to 1 million units annually. However, in 2022, the Model Y experienced a significant surge in sales, reaching 747,000 units. This surpassed the total units sold in 2020 by over 10 times while the United  States alone recorded 34% of the total units sold.

Why are they so popular all of a sudden?

For the first time, Tesla Model Y SUV made it to the top of the 2023 American-Made Index ranking. This showcases Tesla's contribution to the US economic growth. Between 2018 and 2021, the economic calendar, which tracks global events and updates, showed that California experienced a notable uptick with a 16% overall Gross State Product (GSP) growth. During this period, Tesla's contribution to California's GSP surged significantly, marking an impressive 42% increase. You can take advantage of the economic calendar to track similar shifts and events in local economies.

Moreover, in the first quarter of 2023, the Model Y experienced another substantial surge in demand, selling approximately 85,000 units in the US. This leaves the question lingering: why are they so popular? To shed light on this, let's explore some of the cutting-edge advantages Model Y has over other electric SUVs in the US market.

Safety first!

The Euro NCAP awarded the Tesla Model Y an outstanding safety score of 364 out of 400 in September last year. Also, this year, the Model Y continued its success by winning the prestigious WhatCar? safety award as well. The Model Y has advanced safety features, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and optional Enhanced Autopilot capabilities. These safety features combine to make Model Y the best-selling electric SUV in the US market, as safety remains a top priority for everyone.

Compact and large

Whether in the two-row or three-row configuration, the Tesla Model Y offers impressive interior space for passengers and cargo capacities. The Two-row model has about 30.2 cubic feet of cargo space with the seat up and about 76.5 cu-ft with the rear seat down. It has a seating capacity that accommodates up to five adults with ample legroom and headroom. While for those seeking additional seating capacity, an optional third row is available. It has a 12.8 cu-ft cargo space with seats up and about 26.6 cu-ft with the rear seat down. These compact and large configurations practically make Model Y the best car for families in the US.

It got cheaper again!

The price cut of the Model Y has had a significant impact on its demand. This affordability factor has attracted a large consumer base. During the first quarter alone, Tesla cut prices on its lineups six times. It slashed the starting price of its Model Y variants by $3,000. The Model Y Long Range drops to $49,990 from $52,990, the Performance model went from $56,990 to $53,990, and the AWD saw a reduction from $49,990 to $46,990. Now, the Tesla Model Y qualifies for an exclusive $7,500 tax rebate, which is reserved only for vehicles manufactured within North America.

Finally, the Tesla Model Y's electrifying presence, exceptional safety features, versatile configurations, and affordability have made it a game-changer in the US EV market. As we embrace the future of sustainable transportation, the Model Y paves the way for a revolution on the roads, combining innovation with performance, and a commitment to a greener future.
