Xbox has joined forces with preservation society National Trust (opens in new tab) and some British creatives to create an Minecraft model of Corfe Castle. This impressive, complex model was funded by Xbox UK in the National Trust's festival archaeology festival. It encourages people to build their own ruin using the foundations.

In that regard, this first build was created by an YouTube video maker named Grian, whose work is showcased in the video above as well as on YouTube. (opens in new tab) By working off of historic photos and consulting an expert, and then using Minecraft build skills with a bit of artistic license, Grian creates a build that focuses on the most interesting features of Corfe Castle, such as its historic octagonal tower and miniature palace, or "Gloriette." bonfire Which, as I understand is a bit like an opulent medieval version of the Victorian folly.

"Grian has done an amazing job in restoring Corfe Castle back to its former splendor. He not only created an accurate recreation of the different styles that were used within the castle grounds, but he also incorporated it into his own imagination. Martin Papworth, an archaeologist of the National Trust, said that we cannot wait to see more innovative designs created by young minds."

You can download Corfe's ruins yourself by checking out the Minecraft server corfe.ruinsreimagined.com. The ruins can be downloaded as a package for Minecraft: Education Edition to be used in classrooms. Microsoft's website contains more information. (opens in a new tab)
