Minecraft's player count continues to climb on its upward trend

How many Minecraft players do you know? Minecraft could be the most popular game currently in the world, with the latest figures showing that it is larger than most countries.



It's not surprising that Minecraft has reached a number of milestones in its 11th anniversary this year. There were more than 200 million copies of Minecraft sold as of May 2020, a rise of 24 million copies from the previous year. It's been a big year for Minecraft, with the rollout of Minecraft Earth and the launch of Mojang's own action-RPG, Minecraft Dungeons.



The Minecraft open-world Minecraft game we love is not slowing down. There has been an increase in players every year, frequent updates like the Minecraft Nether update, and new blocks, biomes and mobs. The problem is that players seem to be out of ideas. Mojang's studio director, Helen Chiang says in a blog post, as she takes a look at the last year of Minecraft which shows that "126 million people are now playing Minecraft every month." This is an increase from the 112 million active monthly users in September of 2019 which was revealed in an interview with Helen Chiang and Business Insider. Chiang says, "What we find is it's a game that people keep returning to." "It may not always be in the forefront, because there are many great games that continue to be released but it's one players love returning to."



Between the traditional paid sales around the world and registered accounts for the free-to-play version in China Minecraft has surpassed more than 480 million players in 2019.The major portion of that comes from the Chinese version, which was released in 2017 and has already gained nearly 300 million players, as analyst Daniel Ahmad notes on Twitter. The paid version has been downloaded more than 180 million times around the world. This would make Minecraft the third largest nation in the world, just behind China and India.
