There aren't any animal adoption centers in Minecraft so you'll have to hunt for a stray cat to take home in the wild. Luckily, cats are relatively easy to find. Stray cats breed in villages with at least one villager and four bedrooms. For every four beds in a village, cats will spawn (up to 10), so you'll likely have a variety of colors to choose from in a typical village.
Black cats can also be found in swamps around witch houses.

How to control a cat
Step 1: To control a cat, first collect some raw cod or salmon from a nearby lake or river.
Step 2: Equip the fish and slowly approach the cat. The raw fish can be used to reassure the cat that is skeptical.
Step 3: Continue to feed the cat more raw fish until hearts appear above its head, indicating it's being controlled. It may need to be fed several times before it starts to become a fan of you. So stock up on fish before attempting this.
Step 4: Once the cat has had enough food, the hearts will disappear. The cat will be given a collar. Now you have a cat as a pet.
