For the first time in over ten years, iconic Minecraft (opens in new tab) default skin/character Steve has a beard thanks to the most recent update to Minecraft's upcoming version. There are some minor changes to the texture of the skins for Alex and Steve in the beta launcher. This is a massive difference.
Steve is now sporting the iconic beard. Sleeves are rolled up or cuffed sleeves and more definition of color in key areas like the arms and chest. Perhaps they've shined them. It's difficult to tell with all that dust.
Alex has the same sleeves on her sleeve as Alex but with more vivid colors on their clothing. Alex's hair is highlighted by its layering and the depth.
The multi-year global pandemic has been rough on everyone. Many people decided that this was a key time to grow a beard, since they weren't leaving the house or even going out. This includes, it seems, Minecraft Steve. Is it a canon? Of course, it isn't. It was a joke.
Steve's beard first disappeared in 2009, just 13 years ago, long before Alex even made an appearance on the scene. However the beard was visible in official artwork. Even the show was featured when they inserted Steve into Super Smash Brothers.
Welcome back, beardy Steve. The fans are excited. (opens in an entirely new tab)
